Anyone know who the tall pretty lead guitarist was that appeared on SNL in the 90s?

This woman has stuck in my mind for years, and I have no idea who she is. I remember being very impressed by her playing on that Saturday Night Live appearance, but have never seen her since. She stole the show from whomever she was backing up that night IMO. I am guessing she was playing in the band for Natalie Merchant on one of Merchant's two times being on SNL--it was a female singer like Merchant for sure.

Does anyone know who I am talking about? Do you know who she is, or what has happened to her since then? Who is she playing with now, if at all?

Was it a lady or a guy?

The only one I can think of was G.E. Smith (blonde hair/pony tail) that led the SNL house band in the early 90s

He played with Hall and Oates (see Private Eyes video and Live Aid) and was once married to Gilda Radner (before she married Gene Wilder).

Anyone have a pic of him? I don't know how to post one.

I dunno, despite the pony tail, it was kinda hard to mistake G.E. Smith for a woman...

I thought the guitar player now was a woman, until I saw him standing up and playing.

Don't think dirty thoughts, he is always sitting in the back.

I remember having similar thoughts about her SNL performance, that beyond being quite attractive, she was quite a nimble guitarist.

G.E. also played with David Bowie on the video "Fashion" ("Fashion!TURN TO THE LEFT! Fashion! TURN TO THE RIGHT!..we are the dealers and we're comin' to town,BEEP!BEEP!") That line always cracked me up!

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the SNL clip of Carnival (I think they may have shown her on camera even more on that song), but I do now have Wonder on SNL with Jennifer
