There was no Soul Train in the sixties.

That said, my fave decade would be the seventies, particularly 1971-75. (Or 1970-76, if you grew up watching the Chicago version!)

My favorites are from the '80s. Fun, spangly music, colorful sets, the show was produced in a way that it would just zip by, and the dancing was practically unreal at times.

I like the show the best from the '70s to the '80s. In my area the show was on WTTG at 5 PM for a lot of years.

My sister liked it a lot better than American Bandstand. I was pretty young but I think I was more into The Midnight Special. Mom let us stay up sometimes. I was usually the last to fall asleep.

Since I didnt watch Soul Train as much, its been a treat to go back in time. Its all pretty brand new old to me.

    The great Billy Preston...

The coolest Soul Train clip I've ever seen:

The Pointer Sisters: "Yes We Can Can" in 1973:

I preferred Soul Train to American Bandstand.

Besides the fact I was a soul freak, there seemed a basic attitudinal difference. I detected a glint of condescension in Dick Clark, referring to the kids as his "cast of idiots", etc., something that Don Cornelius would never have countenanced.

Always seemed like Dick had better things to do on his Saturdays.

The best version of "Soul Power" was performed on "Soul Train". (How fitting :))

As a young teen in the 70s I was more into the pop of AB.When ST came out on reruns and such I do enjoy watching them.

I watched both Soul Train and American Bandstand as a kid, and I loved both top 40 and soul music. That being said, I was definitely a bigger fan of Soul Train simply because the fashions and the dancing was so much better than on AB. And, of course, many artists actually sang live to prerecorded backing tracks on Soul Train whereas AB almost always featured lip syncing.
