Here is a little project I did for my buddy Jim. This first picture shows the 3/4" walnut cut for the IEC power connector and RCA jacks.
This next picture shows how the 45'd corners get squared and glued using some corner jigs I cut from an old 2x4 and a tie down strap.
Last the finished product. Jim picked it up today and I think he likes it. The finish is Liberon Finishing Oil. I did mirror polish the platter, while it was apart.
Luther's a peach alright! He agreed to the project for the mere asking and on a short time frame too. I guess the days are 36 hours long where he lives because between his great family, work and all the projects he has going he's a busy man. He even took the time to reassemble it for me and listen to some records. It sounded great through his "big as a house" vintage Pioneer receiver and Huge JBLs with lattice work grills and custom horn tweeters. The plinth has been satin black powder coated by my nephew. Luther blew me away when he had a grommet for the tone arm wire hole! Next stage is sending it to Mark Morin to rebuild/rewire the tone arm, balance the platter and generally "optimize" it, though it sound awful sweet right now. Thanks again Luther!
Cell phone pics don't do it justice. Running an AT120E on it for now. Tamed the crackle on the copy of Dusty in Memphis in the picture.
Thanks! I do enjoy taking old gear to the next level. You may remember the Rec-O -Kut I did in tiger maple. http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/rek-o-kut-refurb.277354/
