I mean as in a suite that tells a story, has many different parts, with a heavy dose of strings?

Suite + strings; 'Feel The Benefit' by 10cc, which has three distinct sections and a nicely dramatic orchestra in it.

Lyrics aren't a story though.

Alternately, 'Chocolate and 'My Sister' 'by Tindersticks both fit the bill, but they're spoken word rather than sung.
