Of Bowie's catalog, I struggle the most with Lodger. Its a brilliant record. Blackstar is almost as jarring. I find myself coming back to it and hearing something new each time. So much of the discussion is around his reissue campaign. Soon we'll reach the period that will include The Next Day and Blackstar. Are you still listening and appreciation, IMHO, a classic? ... and a classic farewell at that.
Often listen to Blackstar, been listening to Bowie since the mid seventies. Will continue to listen to his material until my own Blackstar day.
i havent listened in awhile. lodger is one of my favorites and scary monsters is where my DB collection ends except for tin machine, outside, heathen the next day and blackstar
Been listening to a lot of Bowie since January '16, Lodger being one of them. No full Blackstar since that Sunday, maybe someday when I get the Deluxe. It was a classy tip of the hat though.
Agreed. I almost have to force myself to listen to it. When I do, I find it to be rewarding and cathartic.
Yes. Having gotten into Bowie during his "missing" years, while I love some cuts on TND, Blackstar is "my" Bowie album. It is firmly rooted in this era, and a big part of the story of my life. "Girl Loves Me" is on a playlist of mine that I put on fairly often (including today), and I've had cycles of obsession with every track on there. The last two tracks bring me to the place I assume "Life On Mars?" does for old heads. Top-tier Bowie album. Top-tier 2010s album. Maybe one day when 2016 is further in the rear view mirror, and not the beginning of "now", I might reevaluate that.
Am I still listening to Blackstar? Well I will now...thanks for this thread, it’s a helpful reminder of how great that album is, and how much I miss him.
I will, but I have to be in the mood for it. Since his days were coming to a close, Its going to be melancholic.
Very much so, though I only got it about a year ago. I only have a couple Bowie albums plus a comp, but this one really speaks to me.
Haven't heard it in several months but I was just thinking about it and it will be listened to over the weekend. It is creative, dark, mysterious and complex. It most certainly is NOT one of those records that can sit on my shelf for years without revisiting.
Yes, my preferred Bowie record since STS during 1976... My top 7 Bowie preferences in order... 1.Hunky Dory 2.Pinups 3.Changesonebowie 4.Station To Station 5.Blackstar 6.Low 7.Heathen
I have Blackstar in my collection... but must confess I didn't listen to it yet. Certainly I will check it out when I'm in the mood again for Bowie records.
