The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve who did Sicario (great movie imo) so I'm looking forward to see what he does with an alien invasion story. It doesn't look like there's any conflict with the aliens but more of an issue with humans and whether we can work together or get torn apart by something which may or may not be a threat, it's probably one big allegory for current real world events, I guess we'll find out in November.

I love sci-fi and this looks promising (loved 'Sicario"), but watching that trailer I feel like I just saw the whole movie with only the ending missing. Maybe its the limits of the subject matter but I already feel like I've seen most of these elements before. Looks great. Good cast. And I'm sure the direction is top notch, but the story looks pretty routine. I mean, where else can it go except the world moves closer and closer to brink of destruction because of misunderstanding when she figures out how to talk to them and saves the day? Right?

While I have no idea how this story will go my gut tells me that what looks obvious in the trailers will not be the case here.

i'm in.....and 'sicario' was, by far IMHO, the best movie of last year.

'arrival' and 'the girl on the train' will be big fall movies this year for sure....and probably oscar contenders.

I'm wondering why Morgan Freeman isn't in it.

I am so looking forward to this film's, uh, arrival. `Prisoners' is the best movie I've
seen in the last several years. `Sicario' was somewhat of a let-down....but Jeremy
Renner as a nerdy scientist? I am so in....

I'm glad none was offered or that he turned one down, the man is everywhere (great for his bank account) but not so good for movie fans, sometimes less is more.

It's at 100% on RT after 40 reviews, pretty safe to say the critics are on board. A science fiction that makes you think, sort of the anti-Independence Day.

I am going to go see it tomorrow. Hopefully the director wows me since he is doing the Blade Runner sequel next year.

  25. The Variety review gave it a thumbs up but indicated that the second act could have used some tightening up
