Of course not but we're talking only about music here. Musical closed-mindedness is a bad thing.

I would suggest all the Drake promoters buy any vinyl that is available. Wait 3 years and take it to a used record store for credit and report back to me how well you made out.

No, I like what I like, and don’t worry too much about anyone else. Don’t much care for Drake, in fact, but I’m aware of who he is — which takes next to zero effort — and don’t consider ignorance a badge of honor. There’s loads of music from the ‘60s I like, including The Beatles, but there’s plenty to like today and in any decade. Whinging about today’s pop acts in comparison to yesterday’s is just silly, and frankly pointless. The kids into today’s music literally do not care what you think. Your tastes are completely irrelevant to them, and I don’t get why that matters so much to you.

I don't think anyone's going to lose their shirt by sampling some music by Drake.

Except perhaps at a SHTV convention.

It doesn’t. I don’t care what anybody listens to. But I find media headlines blaring someone called Drake has outperformed the Beatles on the charts an insult to my intelligence. The market is different today as are the rules that govern charts. I don’t know this joker but I bet he’d give anything to sell 1/10 of what the Beatles did.

Except you’re assuming that just because someone doesn’t share your opinion, that automatically means they like the thing you hate. (Spoilers: Not always true.)

The fact you can’t comprehend not being interested in something other people like without hating it or feeling the need to put it down says a lot.

Kind of a loaded question, given certain modern artist releases going OOP and then skyrocketing in price.

Case in point : check out Drake's "Nothing Was the Same" (2010) on Popsike. Pretty good resale value on that one.

When the news media is crowing about Drake’s “achievement” and framing it in the terms they have I understand his need to put it down because it is ginned up news. It’s not the same charts that it was in 1964. It’s apples and oranges, there’s nothing to compare.
Perhaps they can put an asterisk by his name like they did Roger Maris.

The asterisk is already being used in the thread title. There aren't any more.

You clearly don't, because he's been putting out albums for over a decade, was a television actor before turning to music, and has won a few Grammys. He's not exactly hurting for money or fame.

I was being facetious. Roger Maris was a baseball player.

Well if he’s won some Grammy’s he must be good! Probably end up in the RNR HoF too since they never make a mistake.

    That's true.

But are we assigning musical worth now by record value? There's plenty of Beatles CD's in the dollar bins today, that doesn't mean that the content is crap.

Guys. Sincerely I apologize if I offended anyone. It's been fun.
Opinions are like a**h*****, everyone has one. Let's all agree to disagree and let the music play on!

    Good evening to you all!

You may have but I have never seen a Beatles CD in the dollar bin. If I ever did I would presume it’s a comment on the format rather than the artist.
