I realize that my opinion in regard to Bruce is rather unorthodox. However, I think "The Wild, the Innocent..." is one of the best rock albums of the '70s especially because Bruce had a lot more r&b as well as some jazz influence (thanks to Dave Sancious) in his music back then - and he sang in a more natural voice. I have listened to "Born to Run" and "Darkness" many times over the years. While I like some of the songs on them, I dislike that Bruce started moving from a more narrative lyrical style to a a psuedo-philosophical one, and I really miss the r&b and looseness in his music. Also, his singing style started to become somewhat pompous to me (and I find his later country-twang singing style to be way worse). "Born to Run" is the transitional album for me, so maybe I should've picked that one. I consider "Tenth Avenue Freezout" and "Meeting Across the River" to be great, "Thunder Road" to be good, and most of the others to be overblown. "Candy's Room" is the only song I really like on "Darkness."

Funnily enough, I actually like a lot of mid 80's albums from classic rock artists. I don't care if they aren't up there with the classics, many of them are still enjoyable to me. I understand that I'm in the 0.005% minority, but so what? For those of you who are curious, I made a thread on this topic a while ago:

Mid-1980's albums from 60's/70's bands. Any love for them?

FWIW, I generally lose my interest in classic rock and pop artists with their mid to late 90's albums, though in some cases, I regain interest with the stuff they've done in this decade.

This is mind-blowing. You've just knocked out songs like Powderfinger, Tonight's the Night, Like a Hurricane, Don't be Denied and so on.
