I think Where You Been (1994) is the best Dinosaur Jr album. And I do like You're Living All Over Me (not Bug so much). Just sayin' :).

    Only got halfway through the thread but here is one that may be controversial;

Although I own one or two albums after Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, I don't listen to Wilco's music after that album.

    RIP Jay Bennett

Totally agree. Some of his albums are really in the realm of, 'What the heck was he thinking?'

His influence is still there, whether Tweedy ever really admits it or not. He did say some nice things about Jay after he died but stopped short.

To rack there own.. But this sad. I hate being so rigid that I would never consider revisiting a certain artist.

Some off the top of my head:

    Kiss - Dynasty
    Van Halen - 1984
    AC/DC - Back In Black
Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance
    Black Sabbath - Mob Rules
Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind
    Rush - Signals
    Rainbow - On Stage
    Scorpions - Blackout
Ozzy - Diary Of A Madman
    Aerosmith - Rocks
    Z. Z. Top - El Loco
    Rolling Stones - Tattoo You
The Who - Who Are You
    Pink Floyd - The Wall

To be sure all of those bands had some awesome tunes on various records after the ones listed, but I don't have any CD's from those group after the releases above, and very likely never will.

Hmmmm, when I look at my list I have to think, man, am I stuck in the early to mid 80's o_O...!!!

I don't have any cut-off points for any artists. The closest is either artists that I don't aim to collect every single officially released track for, or artists with the occasional really bad album that I just never listen to. I used to have cut-off points, but then I realized I would run out of CDs to buy and that made me sad and scared so I made the list consist of things I don't ever want to buy, meaning I'll never run out of reasons to visit the record stores.
I feel like I'm the only person who really loves A Bigger Bang.

Neil Young - I don't remember. Maybe Fork On The Road, I don't know. Someone gave me Americana as a gift but it's still sealed.

I don't know if there are many firm cut off points for artists that I really LOVE. Usually when I come to a dead end my interest in the artist falls also.
Tori Amos - up to and including Boys For Pele
    Bob Dylan - Modern Times
    Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
    Depeche Mode - Violator
    Patti Smith - Twelve
    R.E.M. - Accelerate
    Tom Waits - Alice/Blood Money
    Foo Fighters - S/T
    Radiohead - In Rainbows
    The Cure - Wish
    Sinead O'Connor - I Do Not Want...
    Sonic Youth - The Eternal
Perry Farrell/Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual

Some artists have come back. I had written off Madonna after MDNA, but Rebel Heart changed my mind. Same with David Bowie and The Next Day. Note both are shrewd self-reinventionists.

I like to say that R.E.M. didn't make it into the Hall of Fame because of anything they recorded for Warner Bros.

Yes, he's difficult to keep track of as he still has new albums out each year :)
    Which is quite amazing!

Initially, I was going to say that if an artist had put out more than three albums out which meant something to me, I’d always give them the benefit of the doubt, and at least consider buying their subsequent records. This applies to Scott Walker; it applies to Morrissey; it applied to Brian Wilson for the Disney album but not for No Pier Pressure. Then I read someone nominating Boys For Pele and remembered that I gave up on Tori Amos after that, having found Under The Pink a bit of a let down previously.

If an artists sound doesn't progress much and I feel like I have enough music by them. This happens most for me with indie bands.

Once Timothy B. Schmit and George Grantham were gone, Poco's sound was never the same. To me, their harmonies were what made Poco's sound so special.

    Arcade Fire - Suburbs

Even that is patchy, but after that boy. I found them directionless, and I'm tired of playing the Arcade Fire Lyric Drinking Game where you have a shot for every mention of the word Kid(s) or Shout...

For a band who tried to evolve they never shook the teenage angst feel. Except, on the latest, to shed even that potent topic of universality.

Problem is it sounds now like their shtick rather than coming from a real place. I find them a smug, inspiration-free plodding act now, I never listen to them anymore, but if I did, it would be the first two albums and maybe a couple from Suburbs.

First album is fantastic (some of my favorite drumming ever), second album I can listen to from time to time. Everything after that just sends me to sleep. I've tried, but nope.. just doesn't grab me.

I just think some of that cheeky, pop spark must've left with Kevin Ayers - his solo albums have a lot more of that first album spirit to them.
