Stereolab also comes to mind here, most notably their epic "Jenny Ondioline" sounds very much like Neu's "Hallogallo". Of course, Stereolab brought several other influences into the mix as well throughout their career.
And Os Mutantes were the Brazilian Beatles.

First person I think of is Billy Squire. I couldn't listen to him when he started out. If I wanted to hear Robert Plant I'd put on some Zeppelin.

I think the Oasis - Beatles link has been overplayed. I don't think they sound very much alike.

Oasis' melodies do have a certain 60s vibe though

I was going to mention Doucette's song Mama Let Him Play which was a hit in Canada. It sounds like a David Lee Roth solo song but it actually came out a few months before Van Halen's debut album.

In addition to Zeppelin, I thought he was imitating Queen as well, at least instrumentally, when he first started out. "The Stroke" sounded very much to me like Queen's "Dragon Attack."

icehouse sounded like bowie, bowie borrowed from neu!, and tame impalla flat out ripped off the beatles. some artists back slid when they borrowed- 80s jethro tull borrowed from mark knopfler and that era was pretty much uninspiring.

No question Tull borrowed from DS on a couple of albums, but Tull was well established as a band before they ever copped a sound from another outfit.

Icehouse sounded as much like Roxy Music as Bowie to me. Perhaps both, though.

No disrespect, as I adore both men's work from this era, but Dylan's lack of prolific (or maybe, more to the point, "characteristic") output from 66-74 created an opening for Neil Young. They didn't sound the same, but the abstract lyrics paired with guitar/harmonica thing was largely Dylan's, and Neil, to some extant, filled that vacuum when Bob refused. Crazy Horse was something else entirely, tho.

Vocally, I'm referring to both Crest of a Knave and Rock Island.

If you can't hear it, well ...

When this came out in 95, I'd been listening to it on the radio for about a month before I found out that it wasn't David Bowie

imho i don't hear much similarities of os mutantes to the beatles ... more like frank zappa maybe...
los shakers on the other side sounded like "a hard days night" on the first album, like "rubber soul" on their second, their third ("La Conferencia Secreta Del Toto's Bar") is a more genuine effort but also with a clear influence by "sergeant pepper"

I'm still not sure who DS is. I'm not quite as familiar with those albums anyway.

That's just a fallacy oft repeated on this forum. It's not true at all. It's incorrect.

Not sure who inspired whom but this track from 1984 sounds exactly like Prince to me.

Someone posted Billy Squire sounding like Plant. I actually thought when I was a kid that Lonely Is the Night actually was a Robert Plant song.

Heart also had a Zeppelin-esque sound to them that couldn't have hurt.

Why should Peter have been angry with the first Collins-led Genesis track? That means we're talking about the song Dance On A Volcano, and besides, Peter left the band of his own accord.
