I don't like Coldplay, but their lyrics are really, really bad, so maybe I could appreciate them if the lyrics were decent.

    Who ya got??

I have a very specific example. Jimmy Page's Outrider album is full of great music absolutely ruined by horrifically bad lyrics.

Phil Collins has much more musical imagination than lyrical imagination. At least in the 80s. I still love his first two solo albums and "Duke" by Genesis. "Sussudio" is his own wordplay, so credit for that.

I liked The Killers first album Hot Fuss, but the lyrics from their Human album were so idiotic. That was the last album I bought from them. I know they've released others since then.

Katy Perry has some really stupid lyrics too, especially on I Kissed a Girl and Hot & Cold. She seems to borrow a lot of lyrics from other people's songs like when she mentions Eye of the Tiger in Roar.

I don't own any of Beyonce's music, but from what I've streamed on Youtube, her lyrics are like something from a kid in middle school.

A lot of Taylor Swift's new singles have been really disappointing such as You Need to Calm Down and Look What You Made Me Do. There has been a steady decline in the quality of her work since she crossed over from country to pop.

Whitesnake. Great vocals & guitar (most incarnations of the band anyway) spoiled by lyrics that would be rejected by Motley Crue as too unsubtle.

I have very much enjoyed the melodies and heavy instrumentation of Bush's oeuvre. But Gavin Rossdale's lyrics are mostly barely passable, and that is being kind.

Graham Nash - Music/melody is catchy and memorable - but preachy, instructive, and sometimes dopey lyrics are a drag imo.

I've always found the Black Eyed Peas' songs to be very annoying. I don't mind the music, but the lyrics are at best ridiculous.

While I can like a lot of late 60s-early 70s Moody Blues music, most of the lyrics are atrocious.

When the first Interpol record came out, I was pretty into it for a while. Once I listened more closely and realized what he was saying, I stopped listening.

Soundgarden. Although it's quite easy for me to ignore the lyrics completely when I'm listening to their music.

They didn't make much sense back in the day, either, but I notice with Oasis, especially, the songs don't hold very well for me nowadays because of the vacuity of the lyrics. I didn't use to care if I didn't know who Sally was, but now I am thinking what a great song that and many others would be, if they had any meaning other than that meaninglessness being the soundtrack of an era. It's a different thing not caring about the lyrics then. Now I don't still care about the lyrics, but I wish I could. And I think it was a 90s thing. Listen to something like "Loser" by Beck. His lyrics seem to get it, though, even if I never used to pay attention to them.

Yes, among an album of bad lyrics, Prison Blues does jump to front of mind. Lyrics so bad they almost ruin the entire album by themselves.

  24. I chalk this up to lyrics so (atrociously) bad, they’re almost a guilty pleasure...

Sting’s SON’s band, Fiction Plane, had a 2007 album The Left Side of the Brain, that has some of the worst lyrics I’ve ever heard.

But damn if Joe Sumner doesn’t have his dad’s pipes, so all is forgiven.

Here’s a good example of how bad we’re talking about...

One of those threads where we need to guess what it is that people don't like about the stuff they're saying is awful.
