There is always room for debate on this kind of topic, but here are some that I like:

    1. Edgar Winter - Free Ride, Frankenstein
    2. Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen, School's Out
    3. Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain, We're An American Band
    4. Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes, All The Way From Memphis
    5. Humble Pie - 30 Days in the Hole, I Don't Need No Doctor
    6. Ted Nugent - Stranglehold, Cat Scratch Fever
    7. UFO - Rock Bottom, Doctor, Doctor
    8. Blue Oyster Cult - The Reaper, Godzilla

Yup, and I agree they're JW's signature songs. "Funk #49" and "Walk Away" get into the mix, too, but gotta go with "LBG" and "RMW" above those...

I gotta admit this post is pretty funny - especially the Phil Collins selections!

In the US, this list would have to include "Breathe" - I think it's easily their best-known song here.

To my surprise, though, it didn't chart on the Hot 100 here, and it only got to #18 on the Modern Rock chart!

I remember that song being big in the States!

Charly must be one of the most less known Prodigy singles and Breathe / Smack My Bitch Up are both bigger than Firestarter.

@Oatsdad I don't think Breathe was released physically in the US, thus making it ineligible for the Hot 100 at the time.

The Message is the clear choice for Grandmaster Flash.

Makes sense, though I could swear I owned a US CD single of "Breathe". I tried to find evidence of this online and couldn't, so I may be misremembering - I may have owned an import single.

I'll have to dig through my collection and see if I can find it!

In the UK Charly is more well known than Breathe as the sample 'Charly Says..' was from a very famous government public information animated film from the 70s:

also, White Lines was a bigger hit over here too!

As per discogs, those were the different Breathe CD singles issued in the US:
    PRO-A-8811-A
    PRO-A-8811
    PRO-CD-8811
    PRO-CD-8767-R
    PRO-A-8811-A
    PRO-CD-8716

All on Maverick label. The PRO indicates a Promo Single, so definitely not eligible for the Hot 100.

Found my copy - UK version. I'm old and can't remember anything worth a crap anymore! :D

Damn - I could've sworn I had a CD in a "snapper" case, but nope - it's a fold-out that clearly says "Made in England"!
