That's a great track - or track - but Elton has so many massive hits that I'm not sure it'd make his "signature song" top 20!

I'd say John Mellencamp has three ''Jack & Diane, Pink Houses, Small Town''.

When I wrote in the intro about having 2 for a period in their career, that's kinda what I was thinking about.
When and artist has another one years after then it's hard to nail down one or two.
Elvis is a good example with lets say Hound Dog and Heartbreak Hotel or Jailhouse Rock but then there's the much later Suspicious Minds.
    How bout your guy Bowie?
    Changes and Let's Dance?

You forgot "Hurts So Good" - his first huge hit!

Yeah some legends have quite a few.
Elvis and The Beatles are impossible.
For Elton, if pushed for two I'd say Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Bennie and the Jets.

Black Sabbath - "Iron Man" & "Paranoid"

Bruce Springsteen - 'Born to Run' & 'Born in the USA'

I think of those more as complimentary than competing signature songs, rather like the Kings' "This Beat Goes On/Switching to Glide"

Bowie has far too many to narrow down to 2.

"Space Oddity" remains the prime contender for #1. Good rule: artist's first huge hit = their signature song.

In this thread, "Space Oddity" dominated with 74% of the vote:

What are David Bowie's 3 signature songs?

"'Heroes'" was next (55%) and "Changes" 3rd (35%)...

I think that one falls under the ''maybe'' category.

Sorry - an EJ "sig song" list has to include "Your Song".

    There's really no competition there...

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights and Running Up That Hill. What's so cool is that they are so different from one another, down to how they were written - piano based versus created on the drum program in a Fairlight.

I just have a hard time making a strong case for 2 over all the others. I view "J&D", "Small Town", "Hurts" and "Houses" as equally valid "signature songs".

2nd tier would be "Crumblin' Down", "Lonely Ol' Night", and "ROCK"...

I think when we use legends it's impossible to use just two a lot of the time.
Not impossible because there are some with lots of hits but with 2 obvious choices but most have at least 3 to 5 or more.

Of all the legends, the closest to a "sure thing" I can imagine is the Stones.

I think "Satisfaction" and "JJF" are their 2 top "sig songs".

Of course, arguments can be made for others, but I think those two are pretty firmly atop the list...

So scratch Bennie cause Yellow brick stays.
When I was a kid I never head Your Song but it is a staple nowadays.
Can You Feel The Love would be there too.

Come on now. "Purple rain" can't be "among many others". It's probably his most SIGNATURE of signature songs.

I would agree on Satisfaction and Jumpin' Jack Flash as their top 2 signatures. That's certainly how they present it. Those two alternate as the encore song at their concerts with all the confetti.

Then you'd have your Start Me Up and your Brown Sugar and about a dozen more.
