Artists with only one truly great song?

    Here's an example for me.

I have both their albums (Looking Glass and Subway Serenade), but almost none of their songs seem to be anywhere near as good as "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)". Funnily enough, the band hated that song.

Also funny enough, this is one of the few cases where the B-side to a single was far better than the A-side ("Brandy" was the B-side to "Don't it Make You Feel Good", a totally average and unremarkable piece of boogie).

"Only"? In the world of artists with no great songs, the artist with one great song is King!

Not that I'm suggesting King, you understand.

Of course you can only really say this if you've heard all the other supposedly non-great songs.

Procol Harum ... lots of very good songs but only one moment of magic perhaps.

    Strongly disagree o_O

I mean, that's a good song too, but there are so many other great Stones songs that it's hard for me to count them.

Hey! I just wanted to type "The Beatles" just to be annoying but when I saw what you did I didn't think it was funny.... AT ALL

This thread is sure to be very controversial. My pick would be "Are You Ready?" by PG&E.

I can't stand Rolling Stones, but this song is a masterpiece. No offence.

I think ''She's a Rainbow'' is their only truly great song.

This thread is for unsuccessful/lesser known artists only?

Songs you like by artists/bands you don't?

  12. How many of us have seriously listened to the majority of the output of any artists who we think have only one truly great song?

It's probably more like only one truly great hit. Most bands have several good songs.

Yeah I guess you're right, even Stranglehold kinda sucks if you think about it. No great songs at all.

I think that Duncan Browne qualifies with Wild Places. Well, at least it's only one great single…

I don't think Black Lace ever hit the heights of The Birdy Song, either before or after. Some people rate Agadoo almost as highly, but I feel that the tropical aspect is a sad replacement for the avian merriment of the former track.

Steely Dan - Do It Again. I literally don't like any other SD song.

    I'll nominate Head East.
I have most of their albums and like a a lot of the songs, but they all pale in comparison to Never Been Any Reason
