You know, groups that you like but can't be bothered with collecting albums. So a compilation or two works just fine

    For me it's:

    The Hollies (Greatest-Singles Vol. 1)
Chubby Checker (The Best of Chubby Checker: Cameo Parkway '59-'63)
    Bob Marley (Legend 2012)
    Shocking Blue (20 Greatest Hits)

Many '50s and '60s artists (Motown ones, for example)
    Steve Miller
    Doobie Brothers

    Stuff like that.

Is it safe to assume that you're not really a 50s/60s kind of guy?

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

    Talking Heads
    Grateful Dead

Both acts are ok, but I think a 'best of' covers just about all I want to hear.

My initial shock at seeing The Who treated in this way soon turned to joy when I saw your profile pic, the mighty fish city five!

Oh no, I'd say just the opposite. But I think '50s artists lend themselves more to comps than individual albums. The '60s are more of a mix -- some catalog artists (Beatles, Stones, Dylan), other comp artists (Rascals, Lovin' Spoonful).

That's the one. And, a short compilation at that.

    Gotta have "Dancing Queen", though.

I agree with what you said about the 50s. Having a good singles comp for many artists will suffice. At least for me it will

I have comps by the following and wouldn't really delve any deeper - or have heard deeper and am happy with just a comp:

    Hendrix
    Blondie
    Creedence
    Eurythmics
    Erasure
    Stranglers
    Billy Idol
    Pet shop Boys
    Supertramp
    Billy Joel
    The Police

The more recent the decade, the more likely I am to have catalog albums and not comps. Until you get to 2005, after which I'm more likely not to have anything.

For me it's about 1975 I stop collecting albums. I don't delve much deeper than than. With a few exceptions, like ABBA, whom of which I have all the albums!
