I find that this song, and the melody, become a lot more meaningful as I get older. (The fact that I married a Scottish born woman not too many years ago has been part of my growing appreciation of the song. ) It is mostly based on a poem of Robert Burns, and the melody origin may be even less certain. Here is the Wikipedia story on the song http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_lang_syne I heard the familiar Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians version on the radio yesterday, but I recently heard a nice version by BB King, done as an instumental. Guitar-lead, of course Do you have favourite, or 'different' versions to recommend. Or thoughts about the tune? (The Wikipedia article says it is used at graduations, and funerals, in Japan.) I'm going to try and post the anglicised version of the lyric as found on Wikipedia. It has lots more verses than we usually hear.
