Last night, while digging around eBay, I came across the final minutes of an auction for this copy of "The Beatles Story". The description says "Good condition with writing..." I was thinking- if it's real- the seller is completely clueless. Mind you, I am no expert on autographs but these almost look authentic. Harrison and McCartney's look like they were done in a huff while Starr's and Lennon's look like their normal signatures. As you can see, Lennon's is not done in marker.

The reason I am posting this is because it sold for $222.00 (!!!!). Without a COA, I didn't feel confident to place a bid. If that thing is authentic, someone just made a nice haul.

It has to be too good to be true. Opinions?

Ringo never signed like that during The Beatle years.
So if this is legit, they would have signed at different times, in different years.
    I say...fake.
    Although
I had a signed George Somewhere In England album where the signature looked
    Very similar to this one.
I had it authenticated by Frank Caiazzo.

John's autograph looks very suspect. I'm not a Beatles autograph authority either but have seen enough of George and Paul's autographs also to have a general opinion on them and they look like someone trying to sign like them...unsuccessfully. :D

I'd like to comment further but I'm busy selling my autographed Jimi Hendrix Cry of Love album at the moment. :p

It's too good to be true. That seller has a bunch of Lp's that are 'signed'.
He gets away with it by merely stating that there is some 'writing on the cover'.
And people pay hundreds, if not thousands for these forgeries. Nice gig if you can get it.

Not to mention that there weren't Sharpies etc., from what I recall in the original era, so if we assume the autographs are real , which I don't, three of the autographs would have to be later era signings.

blame the buyer for thinking they are getting over on the seller...oh, the irony.
just what the seller wants the buyer to think...

Sorry for bitching, but I'm tired of threads like this. People don't auction Beatles autographs without a COA unless they know they're selling counterfeits...There's no guessing what's going on here.

Ha! Thanks! I guess I'm not as sharpie as I thought I was. :D

I'm not sure people getting autographs in say.. 1964- 1966 were using them much though.
From my memory "virtually" (covering my butt in case I am wrong again :p ) every Beatles autograph I recall seeing in the original era was a regular pen but, um, ah... of course there have been exceptions.

Remember Goldmine magazine? I almost fell out of my chair laughing when one seller had in his ad an "autographed" copy of "Hot Rocks" by the Stones - signed by all...INCLUDING BRIAN JONES! o_O

I really don't follow the autograph business...I'll take your word for it.

Hate to break it you, but a COA is as worthless as a fake autograph. Here's an interesting article with some perspective:

    http://www.ebay.com/gds/Autograph-Collectors-Beware-of-the-dreaded-COA-LOA-/10000000008826276/g.html

At the end of the day, if you want someone's autograph, your only guarantee is getting it from them.
In case where you can't, it's got to come from a reputable seller. The COA is ultimately useless.

The funny thing is..a certificate of authenticity can be bogus also. There have been plenty of shysters selling things with COA's as phony as their autographs.

Edit: Ah, I see Petrofsk just mentioned this above.

If one was to sell their autographed item I guess the best way to prove authenticity would be getting a photograph of the artist signing your item...actually 2 pics one signing the other holding up the item next to the victim.
