I've seen Alex play in a fair number of different settings - his own trio, Ensemble, Decoy; and with others (including that night at cafe Oto with Chicago Underground Duo) and he is always impressive. He has a new quartet with vocalist Elaine Mitchener, bassist Neil Charles and Stephen Davis on drums. I saw their first two gigs and they have a debut CD out called UpRoot on Intakt records in mid November. If the gigs I saw are anything to go by it's well worth looking out for.
chiming in on the Alexander Hawkins appreciation, dude slays - don't miss out on his excellent recordings on Ogun with Louis Moholo-Moholo!
Graewe/Reijseger/Hemingway: Saturn Cycle Georg Graewe, piano Ernst Reijseger, cello Gerry Hemingway, drums (Recorded live on November 13, 1994 at the LOFT in Köln, Germany)
Roderik Povel - Niels Rønsholdt: Songs of Doubt Modern music for for choir, male solo voice and ondes Martenot. Another of my favorites. Amazing singing. I thought this might interest some people on this thread.
Jiffypopinski, I'm so glad you posted this^^^^^! Been a big fan of Ulmer for years. I've been wanting to get another The Thing record since I fell in love with The Cherry Thing. So what's the verdict? Is this new one, the one or should I look elsewhere?
Since you're an Ulmer fan then absolutely get this! It's a pretty wicked collab but then, I like absolutely everything by The Thing so I might be a bit biased Also, if you don't have them, you must get Bag It, Boot and Action Jazz. Those are all essential IMO!!!
Well, I ordered "Baby Talk" along with Sunny Murray "Big Chief" Michael Morley "Moonrise" Holger Czukay/ U-She "The New Millennium" Cluster "Curiosum" First on-line vinyl purchase I've made since late spring.
Charlemagne Palestine - The Lower Depths This is the limited 3CD box that Alga Marghen released last month, limited to 300 copies (I have #14). This unreleased performance was recorded in 1977 at Palestine's loft in Tribeca. Fans of Strumming Music MUST get this!
Tom Carter - Shots at Infinity 1 So far this is my favorite album I got from the Important Records Kickstarter. Imprec's blurb describes it well, "features maximum loop delay drone overload stretched over long, densely harmonic tracks" Unfortunately, I can't find a video, it is streamable on Apple Music and Spotify. Shots at Infinity 1 . Boomkat has longish samples. TOM CARTER - Shots at Infinity 1 - Boomkat
I just have this and last year’s release, Long Time Underground which is also great. There’s just so much great music.
I've been digging the Charalambides "Historic 6th Ward" double album I found used a couple of months ago. I was shocked to discover that in the used bins!
Annette Peacock I'm the One. I never get tired of this album! Quite an interesting one to listen to, but been digging a lot of interesting stuff lately.
Annette Peacock is one of my belated discoveries of the last two years. Although I haven't got round to 'I'm the One' yet, you've probably spurred me on to rectify this. Thanks.
I don't know why my image got removed but this disc is too good to be treated that way: It's called Horizontals White
It's a great one, the title track is out there for even the time it came out, check it out and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
