Community worked in an Avengers joke in the latest episode (#6)

Cop is asking the study group if they're excited about Avengers, then says "I hear Marvel was really hands on this time and really pinned in Joss Whedon creatively, so....how could that go wrong?"

Industry insiders are now saying the movie is on-track to becoming the biggest opening weekend in movie history, and Avengers 2 is showing signs that it could overtake the first movie's $1.5B gross to become the second-biggest money-making film in history:

I've said for six months I thought this would be the movie to beat in 2015. The only thing that will be close will be Star Wars 7, and technically that'll make most of its money in 2016.

I still think Star Wars will outgross Avengers 2 over the life of their runs but it's going to be weather dependant for Star Wars since it's a winter run. There is no competition for Star Wars all the way through March. Will be interesting to see which one gets the repeat biz and it may simply come down to China's gross numbers.

Some sort of retro-active Edward Norton replacement?

Is that movie still "cannon" in the Avengers universe?

Yes, I believe it is. It's still the same Bruce Banner/Hulk as far as these movies are concerned, just a different actor playing him.

The Ang Lee film is not canon.

I need a chart showing me which Marvel films to ignore, and which to believe.

It's a pity, because the Lee one is the best Hulk film.

While the Ang Lee Hulk isn't canon, in that Marvel didn't make it, it isn't exactly not canon either ... I haven't seen either movie since they came out but my recollection is that the Edward Norton Hulk was kind of a sequel and kind of a reboot. It didn't really contradict or revise the origin story from the Lee movie but it also didn't follow on from it in any specific details. What had happened to Banner before the second movie began was left vague enough that you could see it either way.

It might work if they did something different with it. The comics have made the Hulk smart or sent him to different planets, which tend to be more interesting than watching some dumb brute smash stuff.

I think even Fox is disavowing at least one of the X-Men films. And then Sony started over with the Spiderman films, so they're basically saying the Toby McGuire films didn't happen. You can see why this gets complicated.

It only seems to be complicated for the studios that aren't Marvel/Disney. :D

This will probably be the only movie we go to the cinema to watch this year.

    That's sad.

Up to around 10 years ago we'd go nearly every weekend.

As for a Hulk movie, I think Rufalo said that chances were slim as the Hulk isn't really a character you can get a whole movie out of. After all it's been tried twice and both were less than satisfactory.

Mark was saying Universal is somehow involved with the property of the Hulk.

Well, Hulk Vs. Godzilla would help remediate each of their character deficiencies and, you know, allow them to develop as monsters as well as quasi-radioactive mutants. Perhaps they would learn to better share their feelings and communicate, hone their social skills.

Or Hulk Vs. Larry Crowne. He just needs the right foil.
