I have come across what seems to be a good deal - a brand new Avid Ingenium 250 with installed Jelco 250 ST straight tonearm (w/o cartridge) for $1, 200.00 brand new, with warranty, from a respectable dealer.

Price-wise, it's a 40% discount off retail, which is already good. What I'm particularly interested is how it compares, value-wise, to say, Music Hall 7.3 with carbon tonearm and Ortofon 2M Bronze pre-installed, that today can be had for $1,600.00 or thereabouts.

Add the same Bronze to the Avid, and it will be in the same price region as the MMF. Of course, it would be unbecoming an audiophile if I didn't ask about the SQ - do you guys think Avid/Jelco/Ortofon would be superior to MMF/Pro-Ject 9 cc/Ortofon?

Anyone who owns or has experience with the Avid is especially encouraged to contribute.

    Thank you.
