I'm so sad that names like Bono and Jack White are the names that come up when someone says rockstar. So. Sad.

I'd give the title to his replacement, Scott Weiland.

Like him or not, Bono is the last.
Probably will be for the next few years.

    Cant say I agree.
I guess it depends on how you think a rock star should behave.
Seen them live and all he did was strut around stage glaring at us, while swigging from a can of lager.
No real connection to the audience...just singing, strutting and bowing to a giant screen with John Lennon on it.

Being an as$#0|€ counts. Axl wrecked the greatest rock band of the time and showed total contempt for his fans during GnR's heyday. Montreal 1992 was the the low watermark, but Axl consistently showed up onstage 2, 3, 4 hours late show after show. Yes he was great for a few years and I loved that band.

Frenetic excitement, joy, wild man factor is a great description of Dave Grohl based on what he delivers every single show. Dave respects the fans, ALL fellow musicians, and the history of music. He's discovered creative ways to make new music and document the significance of artists forgotten/overlooked by the masses. No one has more fun and enjoys life more than that guy. Not to mention -- breaking his leg onstage, going to the hospital for surgery, and returning to close out the show. Axl caused a riot because he had a sore throat. I'll take Dave as the last rock star any day. He's been bringing it for 20 years and no signs of slowing down

Rockstars aren't noted for their punctuality.

Maybe what the original poster meant was Axl Rose the last bigger than life, in your face, destructive type?

If by "Rockstar' you mean pompous, stupid ******* who doesn't know to surround himself with talented people to cover for his shortcomings, then yes.

How about Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers? I know their debut was before G N' R, but in the Californication/By The Way period Kiedis had the whole 'rock star' vibe, look and attitude I think Uly Gynns is referring to.

Jeez, if Axl Rose is The Last Rockstar, then (paraphrasing)...

"This is the way it ends, not with a bang, but a whimper."

Maybe? I get what you're saying. Axl was a larger than life train wreck (for about a 10 year run). The he became a sad caricature. Could have been so much more. He might of been the last rock star 20 years ago. Definitely not now. But it's all subjective. I'll take Grohl

I always viewed Axl as a caricature rock star. He still is really in that sad Norma Desmund type of end of career car crash way, what with the wigs and bad plastic surgery.
I would go with David Grohl. Now there a great rock star, and one with integrity and who respects his fans to boot.

"A powerful showman with a firey, interesting personality; larger than life; bombastic, if not pompous; self-indulgent." hmm...sounds like all the current "rock stars" are working in other genres. Jay-Z and Kanye watch em work the big crowd...

Some of these defintions of rockstar deviate significantly from the official template owned by Disney Corporation.

LOL....it's all in the attitude. The kids don't care. My point is that the concept of "Rock Star" is not limited. These guys are rock stars in every way. Ego driven, pompous, compelling, indulgent, bombastic.
hell Jay-Z has done a show of just B-sides! That is some pompous rock star sh!t right there...:D
