That notorious Letterman appearance is so great. "I'm strong Dave, I can kick!"

Read the article I linked to. The van merely runs into a small kiosk and is partially tipped over. At very worst, the terrorists inside may have gotten a few bumps & bruises, but there's no way it was a fatal crash. So while Marty & Doc are having their little reunion, there's a fan full of relatively uninjured (and pissed-off) terrorists sitting just a few meters away... and yet the film completely ignores this fact.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love these films... but the Cracked article makes a really good point.... it's funny that there's such a major plot hole. (Maybe we're supposed to believe the Libyans were knocked temporarily unconscious in the crash?) :p

Youre absolutely right Rocker, the Libyans could have gotten up out of the truck and started shooting while Doc and Marty were looking at the taped up letter. They werent far away. What is funny to me is, Zemekis shows Doc Brown get 30 bullets in the chest, twice, by an assault rifle, but couldnt make the Libyans blow up by crashing into something. But I have no problem suspending belief for this film, its still fun.

I think that is what we are supposed to believe, and like most else in the film, you just have to suspend disbelief and go with it. The fact that the terrorists probably wouldn't have been seriously injured had occurred to me, but I just shrugged it off knowing that we are supposed to assume that they were knocked unconscious.

Naaa, I thought they just drove off after recovering from the wreck. This one doesn't bother me at all. What is possible is that the Libyan terrorists would be back once they found out Doc Brown was still alive.

Let's assume they made up over the 30 years that followed. People make mistakes, and some people can forgive some pretty heinous actions.

Good thing he didn't get hit in the head or legs! Funny how villains almost never go for the head shot in movies.

The bigger question is why the hell didn't Marty give himself more than 10 minutes to save his best friend from being blown away by terrorists? That's cutting it kind of close, isn't it? Why didn't he go back earlier in the day and say, "Hey, Doc! Whatever you do, don't do your experiment in the mall parking lot!"?

Screw that. Go back in time 2 hours and buy the winning Lotto ticket! Then they could pay off the Libyans and live in style!

Oh no! Gambling and time travel is a potentially lethal combination as evidenced by Marty's greed in Part II.

Funniest scene in Back to the Future II are the laserdiscs sitting in a trash pile in back of the nostalgia store in the alley. That was very cool in 1989.

The Japanese mustve been going crazy with that sight, as they were the ones using laserdisc the most.

Coming into this thread very late here (unless I've already posted, heh).

Some may be surprised, but I really like BttF II. It's not perfect and does get odd at times (turning George McFly upside down to obscure that it's not Crispin Glover, Marty's son acting so odd). But I love how they go forward and backward in time, and return to events from the first film. One of my favorite moments is when McFly sees the 3D shark for Jaws as a theater and says "The shark still looks fake"

I love these films. No matter what format, I'll always keep buying the movies.

You didnt see the irony of Martys Son being a complete wimp, especially after Martys father was a former wimp, and I guess Marty didnt teach his son how to not be a wimp?

I didn't know that it wasn't Crispin Glover. That's news to me.

I gotta say, I winced at the gimmick of having him fly around upside down to make it harder to see his face. That was a very, very contrived way to make us forget what Crispin Glover looked like. And you can see why they went out of their way to kill George McFly by 2015. BTW, Biff's gambling casino/hotel building was modeled after the real-life Bob Stupak's Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, which is a well-known bad taste hotel on the Strip. (I just had to stay there a few months ago, and it was even worse than I expected.)

Note that all three Back to the Future movies were Amblin Entertainment films, co-executive-produced by Spielberg.

I really liked the back-and-forth time travel deal, too, particularly in that they used outtakes from the first film and reshot some of the 1950s footage to show a completely different angle on certain shots -- including present-Marty sneaking around while past-Marty was on stage.

Not to mention that they didn't seem to have a problem with replacing Claudia Wells with Elisabeth Shue as Jennifer. No attempts to disguise Shue's face. If they had something else in mind for George McFly for Part II, they should have gone with a different actor without any attempts at deception. I'm not a big fan of completely altering plots due to a particular actor not being involved.

It's different with a TV show than a movie, and in this specific case, it didn't bother me too much. But I do wish they could've worked out the issues with Crispin Glover, paid him the money, and had him do 10 minutes in each film (which is all he would've been needed for).

BTW, Lea Thompson (Mrs. McFly) is a very nice person and a good actress, but rarely gets acclaim for the good work she did in the BTTF films. I think she was beside herself with joy at still working in the industry after surviving Howard the Duck.

Well you're right there, I meant more the tics and strange makeup. That whole family scene was bizarre. I know they were trying to make him look similar to Marty, but different. Don't even get me started on the daughter....

It's good to hear she's as nice in person as she comes off on screen, I've always liked her. She is the only reason I'd watch Howard the Duck.

I do think she did a great job on the BttF trilogy. She did that elderly vocal inflection really well.

why did they choose to use THAT clip of Fistfull of Dollars in II?
were they telling us beforehand,"this is how Biff will be finished off in III?"
were the filmakers huge fans of the movie and Clint?
i've never seen any of the DVD extras.
are many questions like this answered on them?

I liked the trilogy, although it got a little weak in parts of the sequels. My problem is the "happy ending" of the first one. Marty and his quirky little family are transformed into the worst kind of materialistic, shallow yuppie scum imaginable. Marty gets a new truck and is in instant bliss. George is just as big a jerk to Biff as Biff was to him. :sigh:

Are you talking about where the stove piece is used as a bullet proof vest? That part of the movie was put in there to give Marty the idea in part 3. But you have to remember, 2 and 3 was originally released 6 months apart. So you had to really be paying attention to remember that movie clip by the time you saw #3.

i don't recall Marty seeing the TV Biff was watching it on.
but regardless,as he chose to call himself Clint Eastwood in III,he will have been aware of that film/scene.

You dont remember Marty used Biffs remote control to turn off the tv, and toss it in the hot tub? Marty was standing there behind, where Biff couldnt see him, watching the Clint Eastwood movie. He shut the TV off just where Clint was supposed to shoot the other guy. Its where he got all the ideas.
