Make sure you only count votes for those who have, and have listened to the hi-res AND ALSO own and have listened to the DCC and have been able to compare them. Threads and initial posts are not always read through very well. Me included.

Agree. The DCC is great, but if you can't get it, I made a DVDA from the download they offered. Loved it.

Also, the HR comes with a lot of bonus tracks. (I don't know if they're still being offered at this time though)

HDTracks does include the bonus tracks. BOTR is on sale through tonight....

5 years later, I still very much enjoy the unlimited 24/96 remastered files........it set the right tone for the McCartney reissue program and all the albums that followed it. Well done Abbey Road!

Liked the hi-res more. The DCC felt slighly boomy to me.

And of course we get the essential One Hand Clapping version of Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five on the HDtracks release.

One thing nice about the DCC - as long as there are Beatles collectors, you should be able to sell it. Just don't overpay, and you might even sell it for what you paid so it's free!

I got the HDTracks download while on sale and with a 15% off coupon for less than 15 bucks so it is a great way for someone to get the music for a decent price. I have the DCC and agree with the post above that you will always be able to get likely what you paid for it back if you choose to sell it in the future. Now it is time for a shoot out when I get time. I will be keeping my DCC copy regardless. Sheesh I have several vinyl versions of this, both Columbia pressings (J4US and US) as well as the Capitol pressing, the DCC, the dreaded 25th anniversary edition and now the unlimited HiRes files....

The only song I can compare is the title track (I have the 24 Carat Sampler with "Band On the Run" and "Maybe I'm Amazed"), and I prefer Mr. Hoffman's mastering by a wide margin. If you get a crack at the DCC disc, listen to the bit right after the orchestral buildup on "Band On the Run". The level seems to come up a bit with the 12-string guitars, and when the drums and bass hit, it really kicks in. Every other version I've heard seems to duck this part down.

I'm glad I have the 2010 hi-rez files. They're great! I just wish I'd bought the DCC when I had the chance.

UGH!! I've never heard the DCC but I own the DTS and the Hi-Rez files. The part of the song you mention always lets me down. The 12-strings setting the table for the drums/bass as you mention has me inching forward in my chair waiting to be clobbered and it just kinda......lays there. I want so badly for more impact there. Always assumed that it was how they (McCartney et al) wanted it and so it goes. But if I produced it.....:) So you're telling me the DCC gives a little more here, huh? Crap! :)

(BTW, minor quible that I've always had with the production of that particular section, but other than that I LOVE the hi-rez files. Really great sounding release)

That's depressing. Now apparently I too have to get in line for a DCC. Rats.

I thought of that, too! A great mastering decision to fix this - and no one else did it on any other release.
On Venus and Mars, there is a similar situation when the (too loud) title track leads into Rock Show. in Stereo not as disappointing as in the quad version - but to my ears only the DCC sounds right there.

I have the "Band On The Run 25 edition". Want the album with Helen Wheels as track eight. I imagine there are better sounding CD's, with that extra track, but it sounds ok to me.

I have read Mr. Hoffman purposefully turned the volume up when mastering this to give it more impact. You can always do the same on a DAW if you like.

You never read that or you never did that? :)

If the latter, I stand corrected.

Thanks for all the recommendations for the DCC. I tracked it down and i've been quite impressed. What's bloated bass for some sounds like decent bottom end to me (horses for courses I guess...), something I've always felt that other editions (Hi-Res included) always lacked. You want Jet to KICK and it does,
