What other bands and albums would you say have a similar sound and/or feeling to The Cure's "Disintegration"?

  2. The Church album this comes from isn't entirely Cure-like, but I think this particular (instrumental-only) track "Film" (the closer to 1992's "Priest=Aura") -- sure sounds like it could have come off "Disintegration" to me...

I can't think of any other album that is quite like Disintegration, but there are some songs that do have a similar sound/vibe:

Stabbing Westward "Waking Up Beside You"
Depeche Mode "In Your Room (album version or SOFAD live version '93)
Def Leppard "Pearls of Euphoria" (I know that sounds crazy on paper, but listen to the bass!)

Actually I think Priest = Aura as an album is fairly Cure-esque.

  6. Still one heck of a good album (IMHO) -- and really great for most Cure fans who like Disintegration.

(Yeah, Bloodflowers isn't quite as good as Disintegration, but what could be??!!!)

    Pornography is better.

Though my favourite Cure album is Wild Mood Swings.

Wow, you aren't kidding. I'd think this was The Cure without a doubt. Could easily be a cover band. Ha. It's a little too much of a rip off, but actually sounds good.

DJ Shadow's Endtroducing seems to occupy the same headspace for me, but it's obviously in a different style. Both great in the rain, mid-tempo, hypnotic....

I don't mean this in a smart ass way at all, but I highly recommend the live version of the album called Entreat Plus. Recorded in July '89 at Wembley and in several cases the live versions trump the studio ones (and that is saying something). For instance, the epic "Prayers For RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN" that you have to hear to believe!

    Closer; butt later:
"Love & Rockets - Hot Trip To Heaven" [1994]

always likED playing this album w/"Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly" [1990].
Both always got me in a "Den of Iniquity" kinda mood; so i'll start a new genre & call it "Opium Rock".

I do love the Cure but I have to admit they did 'borrow' a little from New Order - the baselines and keyboard sound.

Have you heard Elegia by New Order, from the album Low Life. Could be later Cure. So I'd try that album.

And if Disintergration is dreamy melodies, sweeping synths and melodic bass and guitars parts you could try the Cocteau Twins, Blue Bell Knoll or Treasure fit the bill.

There was a whole scene called Shoegazing in the UK that borrowed from the Cure, of the bands I guess Slowdive fit the bill, probably their debut.

Just listened to Elegia by NO again - blimey you could add that track to Disintergration and nobody would notice the join.
