    IMPACT (1976-1978)

They sound like other Philadelphia soul groups of the 70's such as the Stylistics and the Blue Magic.

After leaving the group Temptations, Damon Harris decided to reform The Young Vandals with Simms, Timmons (Kareem Ali), and Tilghman, renaming the group Impact, and signing a deal with Atco Records in 1976. Working with a Philadelphia Soul production team, Impact recorded a number of minor soul and disco hits, including "Happy Man" and the #5 disco hit "Give a Broken Heart a Break". The group released only one album on Atco, 1976's Impact, before being dropped from the label because of low sales. Impact signed with Fantasy Records in 1977 and issued the album The Pac is Back, which also suffered from slow sales. The group disbanded and Harris recorded some solo singles of his own in 1978.

The Zombies, would love to hear what they would have sounded like in the 1970s. I know there is Argent, but it isn't the same.

Oh the 'what ifs' here...had they waited for Moe to recuperate after giving birth, they might have made Loaded a success on the road. Moe was still kicking it in in the post-Lou gigs in 1971 so she was ready to return. Sterl might still have quit given his academic interests in 1969-70 but he still loved playing so perhaps could have been persuaded to stay.

On the other hand...had they waited for Moe before recording a new album, would Atlantic been behind them? Moe was fit again in October when they did Doug's demos at Atlantic studios but I can't see a major agreeing to that given how lowly the VU were in the 'rock kingdom'. Goddam Steve Sesnick, it's all his fault.

(and yes, I know at some point after they broke up it became fashionable to just say 'Pixies', don't care)

Still fascinating what they did through these (short) years.

Yes, I agree. It would have been good to hear more records after Loaded. But I'm referring to the original band that recorded the first two records. I would have loved to hear two more from them.

    Yes, the Zombies!

Didn't they break up, just before their hit single "Time Of the Season" was rising on the charts...?

Yep, then they reformed and recorded some more music for an album that was to be titled R.I.P., but they broke up again before it was released. I'm about 50% sure I have that story right. :D

That's what I originally wanted to post, too. But hmm, their reunions didn't work well, so I heard.

Does the version of Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Anthony Phillips count, here?
...however, as the subsequent solo careers of Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Paul Weller, and Sting have shown us -

The musical directions that they were determined to head towards would NOT have appealed most of the fans of the bands.

These musicians knew best to "cut anchor" and to sail independently.
To have such compelling feelings of self confidence in their artistic drive - and immense self determination - must have been amazing.
