I just recently read that Streisand is doing one of these with Elvis. Love Me Tender.

Barry Manilow is still with us?

Two possibilities in theory: Karen Carpenter "Can't Smile Without You" and Donna Summer "Could It Be Magic". I doubt that Richard would sign off, but stranger things have happened.

I just wish there was an Adam Levine (Maroon 5) duet here...

Don't like it? Don't buy it. I've never been a fan of Barry's anyway, but I don't see the harm.

The future is going to be a scary place. You will never know who is alive and who is dead.

Thanks for the link, but I meant the references to Nick Drake, George Harrison, Patti Page, Yma Sumac and Sam Cooke. I haven't seen those names mentioned anywhere except in this conversation. If it's true, there could be some interesting possible duets with these performers.

Since it's Streisand instead of Manilow, I guess no one here objects to that.

I'm interested to hear what duets he does with Mama Cass and Dusty Springfield.

For what it's worth, I wasn't thrilled about Barbra singing with Elvis. Is this Natalie Cole's fault? Was she the first to record a duet with someone deceased?

"Doing a Duets album would be cheesy and tacky.. so I'm going to do mine singing along with the vocal tracks of a bunch of dead people!".

    Yeah, okay Barry...

If someone hears one of these duets and discovers that artist because of it, I don't see the harm in that. Would that artist rather be remembered or forgotten?

Yes, that's a good way to look at it!

Too bad Barry's not doing a song with Karen Carpenter, which seems like an ideal fit -- I guess Richard is not open to anyone other than himself working with the Carpenters legacy.

If it's on Verve, you're likely right about the David Foster part.

That looks like a budget release you'd see on an end cap at a Walmart!

well, there's a difference between doing 1 song and a whole album of them imo

That Donna Summer is as great idea! Too bad it didn't happen...

Who knows -- this may not be the cover artwork, but just a promo picture with the artists' names? At any rate, it has the feel of a 60's album cover, so that may have been the look he was going for...

Artwork has had to change to reflect how music is distributed. We used to have 144 square inches to market an album. That was slashed to 22.5 inches (or 72 inches for a longbox) for the Compact Disc. Physical product could have stickers to promote hit singles, guest appearances etc. You can't put stickers on itunes artwork so you now have to include the info in the graphic. FWIW I also think the new Streisand cover looks terrible - poor clothes choices, makeup, coloring.

As for Manilow - his mug is his mug. This is also the guy who wore a "Screw" T-shirt on his original debut album cover.
