    My prediction for this bracket is CSN (y) vs. The Eagles or Buffalo Springfield... Which would be kinda funny. I think The Doors get crowned champion

    I disqualified The Byrds as they were only around nine years and did too many covers for my taste.

    R.E.M. produced consistently good music from 1980 to at least 1996 with the same lineup. They get my vote:)

    Throughout the years I believe I have heard each band on the lists referred to as an "American band," as if they embodied an intrinsic Americanism, except Buddy Holly & the Crickets.

    I disagree that this is sad at all. Buffalo Springfield may have a smaller catalog, but it is incredible. So is the Dead though.

    The real upsetting one here is Tom Petty over Sly and the Family Stone.
