Seen the first 2 episodes and all I can say is AWESOME!! No one does it like the BBC when it comes to the natural world. It's better than the first series and that's saying something!

Is this going to be released on blu-ray in the U.S.? As a past pattern, sometimes this stuff is released in England months -- if not years -- before it is ever available in the U.S. (My most recent BBC nature series is "Life Story", and I plan to get "The Hunt" for Xmas, if not before.)

I know in some cases (most?), BBC Blu-ray releases in the UK are region-free. Awhile back I picked up the "Planet Dinosaur" BBC mini-series from Amazon UK, because the full series was only released on DVD in the US, and it's region-free.

So if this is released early in the UK (and especially if it gets re-edited and a new American narrator stuck on it for US airings, as was done with the original "Planet Earth"), that might be an option.

As I recall, back in the early days of BD the "American" version of "Planet Earth" was actually released on BD at least online via the Discovery Channel, the one with the Sigourney Weaver narration.

This is the sort of thing the BBC does better than anyone. Its just a shame they also produce crap like strictly come dancing or the voice. They should stick to what they are world beaters at.

Please no Oprah narration over here. WTF were they thinking with the Life series? Thankfully we had a choice. :)

Now that was extraordinary footage. Cheers for the fleet-footed iguana. I could not have endured watching it if the snakes had won.:sweating:

And even more boogie in episode 2 when the bears get going. Wonderful stuff. I also took great delight in seeing how the male sloth moves into action when he gets the scent of a female - moves just the same way he always does...

A beautiful series that reminds us of far more important things than the drudgery of everyday life. Highly enjoying it so far!

How come they change narrator? Attenborough is such a legend and has an iconic voice. It's all part of the experience.

I'm guessing they just figured an American voice is what American viewers of the Discovery Channel would want.

The bigger issue with the US version of the original "Planet Earth" was that it was also edited down quite a bit as I recall.

If its not narrated by David Attenborough, then its not worth watching.

....and I thought Sigourney Weaver was great! So much so that I was peeved when I bought the box set! I was like; "who's this guy!?". Of course I came around after I watched it!;)

Posting in here so I know when the blu-ray goes up for pre-order. This will be a great addition to the existing trilogy of Planet Earth, Life, and Human Planet (which I think is less well-known, but just as good, IMO).

I really dug Human Planet as well. The focus on human interaction with nature was fascinating. IIRC, one chapter was about an Asian tribe that used eagles to hunt. Well, a new documentary is out on a 13-year old female, who shows the males how it is done! It is entitled "The Eagle Huntress":
