All of these are leaping out to me and really ruining the experience. Did my samples work? Don't Talk is egregious...
My SACD player may be boxed up, but my parents’ Sony UHD blu ray player has SACD playback. Threw the disc on there just now, and though they were harder to detect through crummy tv speakers, the same glitches and clicks apparently exist on the SACD layer.....
So I tweeted @ the Acoustic Sounds account (best I could think of) about all this and got a reply that they’ll investigate: Acoustic Sounds on Twitter In my tweet I only mentioned the redbook layer (all I knew at the time) but it should hopefully get the ball rolling for the whole thing to be checked
There are pages about it here. It's an upmix. The original was intended for two channel surround. The original audio engineer, Stephen Desper, posted here with all the background well after the release and after all the speculation.
Well, I am a big fan of surround mixes and I own quite a few such discs but I really did not like this one. The Beach Boys sacds All Summer Long, Today and Summer Days all sound fantastic in stereo and it is a real shame that Sunflower does not sound the same at all.
My player plays the "multi" by default so I will need to go back into the menu to set it to play the stereo mix.
Not sure if it was mentioned in any of these pages but listening to "Girl Don't Tell Me," from the Summer Days SACD the recording to me sounds like a recording of a song if you were listening to a"warped" record. Does anyone feel that there was something wrong with the transfer of that song?
You mean the stereo mix? That was one of the "extracted" stereo mixes done in 2012 where true stereo elements weren't available, so that would explain what you're hearing. Ironically I though the extracted mix of "Girl Don't Tell Me" was one of the better efforts.
It's probably my least favorite because of the awful digital "swooshing" sound in the left channel. Really, really cheap and badly done.
You really can't lose either way with those options!! Me, personally, I think (think) Surf's Up is maybe my favorite of those three. As in, it probably gets the most plays and gets played all the way through. It doesn't have any hang-ups or something. It doesn't ask anything of me, if that makes sense.
Holland is my favorite of these three albums but Sunflower has the most Brian input. You make the call.
Well, I'm intimately familiar with all three albums, but wondering which is most valuable in SACD form.
