He's said there are a few things he'd like to re-visit but that, overall, it's accurate.

You know..... the book (well the extended version - and maybe the standard version of Vol One) has a lot of ancillary information. Some of it is a bit distant from the main Beatles story. This is not a complaint - I actually love it

But it is my feeling that as he continues down the Beatles timeline he is going to find a lot more of this - and it is going to be more of a challenge to him to draw the line as to where to stop.

    Agree?

Yes. Discussions of the songs will have to be cut back as well. Assuming book 2 goes through 1966 -- that is a huge boatload of songs, and if he gives individual songs the same treatment as Book 1 we'll have a 2000 page tome. Important events escalated hugely as well. He won't be able to dwell on minutiae as much and will need to carefully pick and choose the things to dwell on and be very concise on everything else.

Yes. If he does the same amount of detail as in book 1, the regular book would be like 2000 pages or more. The expanded edition? 2500- 3000 pages or more.

There's no guarantee that Vol. 2 will go through 1966. It may end in 1965.

And that would be mean that Volume 3 would have to include 1966 to 1970.

If that is true, then I think Mark needs to rethink his "trilogy" and revamp it into a 5- or 6-volume set.

I'm having a hard time imagining Lewisohn cutting back on the minutiae.

It's plausible - particularly as you've suggested it! People tend to regard the end of 1966 as being the end of an era but you could make a case for the end of '65. They toured the UK for the final time, and I think the 'more popular than Jesus' interview was done around that time? They stopped being infallible, loveable moptops. As Dylan said when John played him Revolver: "I get it - you don't want to be cute anymore'!

Nik - do you remember a discussion some time ago (on this thread, I believe) where you were saying that Mark had since discovered new information about 1962 which was highly significant. I asked if you could share it on here and you said you'd check with him first. Did anything come of it?

Small correction: i believe it was Paul who played Dylan the Revolver tape.

Small correction-Dylan said that when Paul played him Sgt. Pepper.

Even smaller correction: Dylan said that when Ringo played him "Wrack My Brain" ... ;)

It must have been Revolver (despite what Paul said), as Dylan was in London only in 1966, not 1967.

Bob was in Woodstock throughout 1967, and there's no record of Paul going to visit him.

Thanks for the clarification everyone - I had it in my head that it must have been John because Eat The Document shows them hanging out in the first half of '66. Ok, Revolver hadn't come out but it could have been an acetate. A quick Google search has a report of Paul playing an acetate of TNK (as Prudence1964 points out) to Dylan. To add a further twist, Marianne Faithfull was present and she says that Dylan simply walked out of the room without saying anything.

Maybe Giles could do a mash up remix of these different editions.

I personally don't mind how long the biography is. It took me no time to devour the extended version of v.I. In my case the longer the better and most of the information provided by Lewisohn is not repetitive. The only wish I have is to live long enough to read the full works.
