I think the boot you may be thinking of, was the 1989 Japanese Beach Boys "SMiLE" CD which said Thanks to Mark L (Linett) in tiny print at the bottom of the CD.

    If not, funny coincidense :)

Get Chip Madinger's book - "Eight Arms to Hold You: The Beatles solo compendium".

    2. It's a great book! More of a reference book, but I read it cover to cover.
    3. It won't give away the plot of Lewison's book. :) (Except the part about them breaking up in the end)

The late 1980s bootlegs come from Roger Scott's (Barrett's assistant) copies. He's also responsible for the "control room monitor mixes" that began to appear around the same time. Around 1997, stuff from Barrett's actual cassette dubs began to appear.

Don't know when Lewisohn actually began writing the biography but he began working on it as early as 2006-07. He contacted me around that time about early documents I had for use in the bio.

Revised additions of John Winn's great books are available at most major book stores.

    He's also a board member.

Roger Scott was a radio DJ. The tapes came from his estate sale.

Sorry for the nonmention Mark! Maybe the book should have been credited to Mark Easter & Chip Madinger. :shh:

It's all good... just the fact that it's still loved after all these years is all the credit I need. :)

Amazon UK are advertising Lewisohn's Beatles bio now!

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fab-v-1-Beatles-Biography/dp/0316729604

    800 pages in length.

The Beatles are the cultural phenomenon of our time, arguably - unarguably? - of all time. In addition to their outstanding and clearly timeless music, their influence still pulses around the world in unaccountable aspects of everyday life. FAB has one aim: to be the all-tile standard word on the Beatles. Comprehensive, objective, unexpurgated and the product of definitively deep-level research, it will set down the whole story, easily, in three volumes. Volume One tells the early part of the story in two parts: 'Passion' from 1940-62 discusses the beginnings of the band, and 'Explosion' focuses on 1963, the year when everything changed.

But don't get too excited, as the publication date is September 2011.

On a related matter, the John Winn books are superb.

  20. while off on the tangent of Andrew Loog Oldham

I couldn't find a thread on either Andrew Loog Oldham or these specific books, so:

What's the difference between Stoned and 2Stoned? Is it just Vol 1 & 2, or different subjects or what?

    Yeah, they're two volumes:

"In his first book Stoned Oldham recorded his early years and the meeting with the Stones that changed all their fates; 2Stoned is the story of what followed."

Unfortunately he skips his Immediate years but this book fills in the gap:

Strange. The new McCartney bio by Howard Sounes which is coming out on Aug 25 (in the UK) is also called Fab. I wonder if they'll consider changing the name of Lewisohn's series

thanks for the tip. Just spotted t on Amazon and didn't like what I read. After getting the latest McCartney bio (which was a huge disappointment), I'll pass on this one.

I noticed that too. The title of Lewisohn's book was announced pretty early on, so I'm not sure if Sounes's title is a coincidence or a crafty marketing ploy!
