I got hold of a set of Beatles LP's from Italy recently and finally got the chance to play some of them today. I got a whole set (PPM through to LIB), the only one missing is MMT, and I got them for very reasonable money. They actually sound pretty good - not quite a match for original-era UK pressings but very good all the same. Vinyl is very quiet and the sound is very clean - they sound almost as good as the late 70s/early 80s UK reissue pressings I have. The interesting thing about these LP's is that they actually have dates printed in the dead wax - I bought these from an Italian collector (via a friend in the UK who was selling them on his behalf) who had never played them. They are absolutely pristine. The LP's have a mix of dates from 1976 to 1982 in the dead wax. Now, I'm not sure if these dates in the dead wax are the pressing dates or what they are referring to. Do any Beatles fans on this forum have much knowledge of Beatles Italian pressings? I'm not overly familiar with the Italian LP's although previously I had some early 70s pressings. Does anyone know what those dates in the dead wax are likely to mean? Could it be the actual pressing date or could it be something else? Any help on this greatly appreciated!
