So, I think the big bands did around 8 song sets at Live Aid- what would like to see from a reunited Beatles?

I’m going with, rather speedily chosen:

    Two Of Us

    Jet

    What Is Life

    Stand By Me

    Strawberry Fields Forever

Too Late For Goodbyes (Julian cameo)

    Octopus’ Garden

    My Sweet Lord

    Sgt Peppers Lonely Hrts (Reprise)

Edit: John is alive in this scenario- included Julian for some even more good vibes

If you're going hypothetical, why not have John be alive?

In my recollection no one did more than four songs at Live Aid, but maybe I'm wrong. Not what I would WANT to hear but what would likely have actually happened. This is a world where John is still dead, right? A threetles reunion? OK then four: I Saw Her Standing There. In My Life (George vocal). Little Help from My Friends. Let it Be.

I mean obviously if the three of them were there as a "Beatles reunion" they would play only Beatles songs. Given the times, having Julian sub for John would also be likely I guess, in which case he gets the lead vox on In My Life.

I think the threetles would have just played Let it Be at the end, like Paul did anyway.

Yeah, that was the premise- John alive. Could have still include Julian anyway!

Might have been nice, but I don't think they would have included a Yoko song in such a short set.

If John's alive you pretty much have to include Imagine don't you?

    I Saw Her Standing There
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (with special guest Eric Clapton)
With a Little Help From My Friends
    In My Life (for John)

Then a big jam for Twist and Shout or Long Tall Sally

I’m sure Paul would’ve wanted to perform Yesterday

The only way they would have done it was if John was still alive. No band got more than four songs (as someone above already pointed out) so, if John was alive and they did it my picks for the 4 songs would be: All You Need Is Love, Something, Hey Jude and A Day In The Life to close out the concert.

I could see Get Back with Billy Preston sitting in, as well. Maybe Hey Jude, Let It Be, or Day Tripper.

Wrong on the four song thing, thanks for correx. Watched it in real time and haven't thought about it much since. Though I see on wiki that only about five acts did more than four songs, many less.

Ah I forget "All you Need is Love" which iirc in real life Elvis C opened the whole show with. Yeh, a Beatles with or without John at that event would have to do that one. If John were alive, the "memorial" aspect of In My Life not necc, so a four song set would be some early rocker like Standing There or Hold Yr Hand then the big sensitive arms in the air wavers of Love, Friends, and Let it Be. Live AId was built for big sensitive arms in the air waver iconic tunes like that...

And in the John-is-alive scenario (as was intended)?

Off Beatles topic but on Live Aid topic---amusing myself reading all the set lists on Wiki. Can you believe that a) Rick SPringfield got this gig?? and b) he did NOT play "Jessie's Girl!" (the only song the vast majority of the audience would have WANTED to hear from him!!) Whatta egomaniac!

Also the ‘Criticisms and Controversies’ section of the Wiki entry is also a good read: Dylan’s farmers comment (good on him), Phil Collins ruining the Led Zoe reunion, etc

They could have done the Abbey Road medley for the first time and have done with it.

    Twenty minutes. Job done.

But, yes, there is the small matter of John.
