So all CD issues of Sgt Pepper have had it repeat a few times and then fade. This is of course inconsistent with the band's original intent that it repeat until the listener got up and lifted the tone arm. While I do not believe it is possible to have a CD direct a player to autoloop atrack, it would have been possible to make the track run as long as 40 minutes given the current space limitations of CDs (34 in 1987).

    What would you prefer?

I voted the last option. Make folks shut it off if they don't want to hear it for 40 minutes as The Beatles intended. Of course omit in where US version is expressly being released on CD.

Interesting tangent: my 10 year olds were annoyed by the for dogs only frequency, which I have never even heard (though I had only heard the US version of the LP at their age).

I'd prefer the unedited 14 minute version. But the way they did it on the CD was fine too.

Growing up with the US version, I never heard it until Rarities came out. I cam live without it.

My (probably uninteresting) tangent is that the dog whistle was how we found out that our dog was losing her hearing.

On the CD of The Flaming Lips "Hit To Death In The Future Head", they've got an 'infinity loop' at the end, that lasts almost 30 minutes!
I think letting "Inner Groove" fade is a good idea....
However, the 'one-loop-DONE' concept (that, I think, was on the US "Rarities" LP) does give one a bit of a chill!

I'm still waiting for my original vinyl copy to stop playing. You mean I'm actually supposed to pick up the tone-arm?? :)

But it's great way to break in your cartridge, pre-amp and interconnects!

The way it is on CD is fine. I listened to Rarities last night on vinyl for the first time in probably 25 years and I didn't like how the inner Groove just played one time and was over.

it doesn't really matter to me. the cd version was fine. I always had auto pick up on my turntables in the past.

The version on the USA version of "Rarities" is a slightly longer version.

I really don't see as it matters.

You must be bored if this is the most interesting subject you could think of.

Toss it. It's a joke that might have been funny the first time, but after that it's just an annoyance.

It's one of the few Sgt Pepper topics that hasn't gotten a thread. I guess it interested you enough to read and comment on it.

Just because someone comments on something that doesn't equate to it being interesting.

Bored enough to comment I guess. I am doing a long train commute. What's your excuse? Nothing better to do at work or at home?

No, I'm not feeling bored. I'm amused that you posted about this.

And I'm waiting for someone to turn up before I go out. :)

I posted it as I think they made the wrong move and should have honored the Beatles' intent, and wondered if others agreed to any great extent. But glad to provide a diversion while your hair dries.
