  1. Nope, Paul plays the solo on Taxman. The plot thickens.

fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

Yes, after a particularly heavy tea binge.

But that's actually in time as a count-in with the music, while the exaggerated 1-2-3-4, 1-2.. count-in for Taxman is not.

That was not included in the finished product even though tempo-wise it fits (and being the real count-in - it would fit) while with Taxman it's included when it actually doesn't fit tempo-wise at all (strongly suggesting it was edited in for ear catching effect).

You can use any four syllables you want to count-in a song as long as they reflect the desired tempo.

    1 Sugarplum
    2 Fairy
    3 Sugarplum
    4 Fairy

According to the Complete Recording Sessions Book, Lennon did this type of thing quite often on the session tapes when counting in songs throughout their career.

And Paul was the only really good looking Beatle. And the Smartest.
If it wasn't for Paul, John would never have recorded Two Virgins.

And if John didn't exist, it would have been Paul and Yoko on the cover... ;)

Yoko really wanted Paul at first, not John :)

"Revolver" is my second favourite Beatles album (after the "White" album) and I have long thought that George's quirky count-in to "Taxman" was a perfect way to begin a rather quirky album. I assume leaving the count-in on the recording was George's idea?

It's such a weird count-in. It sounds like they're being devoured by worms.

I was more inclined to thinking that they were being sucked down into quicksand.

I must have made a mistake, I thought this forum was dedicated to music. This place is brimming with fledgling comedians.

According to Mark Lewisohn, the opening "One, two, three, four, one, two" was added to take 12 of "Taxman" on 16th May, 1966 - 3 weeks after the last session for the song. On the same session as this additional count-in part was added, Paul recorded his lead vocal on "For No One"...

    It's only bloody Paul, again!

According to Mark Lewisohn, this count-in was overdubbed onto "Taxman" weeks after it was otherwise finished, at the same session at which the only other recording was Paul overdubbing the lead vocal on "For No One" (May 16th, 1966).

I'd always assumed it was George but listening closely, it sounds like Paul.
