I love the guitar riff on the Beatles' cover of "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", especially on the BBC version. I know it's a simple riff, but I like it anyway.

The Stones' cover of "Love In Vain" had a big impact on me and had a lot to do with me getting into the blues and Robert Johnson.

Good one ... but I'm more a "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" kind of guy ... another Searchers song would be "Love Potion No. 9".

"Everybody Is Trying To Be My Baby"- Beatles - This one really rocks!
"Cry To Me" - Stones - I just love this tune.
"Confessin' the Blues" - Stones - Ditto!
"Sha La La" - Manfred Mann - A whole lot better than the original
"Summertime" - Gerry & the Pacemakers - My favorite of this classic.

My list can go on and on.

Sticks and Stones - The Zombies
    Summertime - The Zombies
Slow Down - Gerry & The Pacemakers
Shop Around - The Liverbirds - this track is on a three disc set on the German Star Club label. In addition to a brilliant performance by the girl group it has the most remarkably raw stereo sound I've ever heard - it is truly superb.

Definitely Rock 'N' Roll Music. Smokes Chuck Berry's original, which ain't too shabby either.

    Also, Twist & Shout

Best British invasion cover....The Who's version of Summertime Blues from Live at leeds gave it an immensity and weight that the original never even hinted at!!Part of the reason of doing a cover is to pay homage to the original, add your own flavor to it and usually one or more members of a band actually liked the original song. The Who seemingly hit all these angles on that song, hands down

It's All Over Now Bobby Womack

Donald, "It's All Over Now" was originally recorded by the Valentinos. It was out at the same time as the Stones version. The Stones covered it quickly. Granted, Bobby Womack was a member of the Valentinos and the song was written by Bobby and his wife, Shirley, but the version released by Bobby in his name is a much later recording maybe very late 60's or early 70's.

Just to keep the record straight!

A couple Beatles covers that stand out for me, above those that have been mentioned so far:

"Ain't Nothin' Shakin' (But the Leaves on the Trees)" from the BBC Sessions
"I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You)" from the Star-Club tape
"Where Have You Been All My Life" from the Star-Club tape
"A Taste of Honey" from Introducing the Beatles ... when I first heard this version in 1973, this was the first I learned that the song had words! Before this, I'd only ever heard the song by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

And several by other British Invasion acts:
"Go Now" by the Moody Blues
"Concrete and Clay" by Unit Four plus Two
"Do You Love Me" by the Dave Clark Five
"You Got What It Takes" by the Dave Clark Five
"I'm a Man" by the Yardbirds

Completely agree, You Really gotta hold on me, Twist and Shout and To Know him is to love him.

There is a certain moment in Lennons vocals , where nasal and rasp meet, that sends a shiver down my spine. The most recent example was the version of " This Boy" on the FAAB single. He hits that middle eight, not double tracked , and the hair on the back of my neck just goes. What a voice !

Putting "Till There was You" on that LP was a brilliant move. There was a song that "THE PARENTS" could listen to and say "Gee, these guys are not so bad". Them singing it on ES was not a random choice.

Part of the early success of THE BEATLES was that it was not just the "kids" that were listening! :D

I was kinda scared this wouldn't get mentioned. I was playing my UK vinyl "Collection of Oldies" LP the last time I heard this. It MIGHT be my favorite Lennon vocal performance.
