Same here. My fave Lennon vocal on a cover, although Money and Twist and Shout are forever great defining moments. I was always amazed that Bad Boy didn't get a wider release. Like I Call Your Name, it just seemed to get lost in the shuffle.

One more vote for You Really Got a Hold on Me... I even enjoy the impromtu version done during the Get Back sessions.

As for Till There Was You, my mother used to sing it around the house all the time when I was little, way before I discovered Meet The Beatles. So I knew all the words.

    John,
I don't believe I ever heard this version of "This Boy" that you speak of...especially on a single. Is that a boot CD single or a 45rpm single?? Send me a PM please!!

    It is the legitimate Apple CD single 7243 8 82587 2 2

    1. Free As A Bird
    2. I Saw Her Standing There - take 9 stereo
    3. This Boy - incomplete takes 12 & 13
    4. Christmas Time (Is Here Again), extended a little

Did you get the Real Love CD single?

    1. Real Love
    2. Baby's In Black - Hollywood Bowl 1965
    3. Yellow Submarine - different mix with Ringo's spoken introduction
    4. Here There And Everywhere - new mix

    Both are well worth having.

Yes this just DIDN'T sound like what he was describing, I actually own about 4 copies of each of those!:D I still don't get the This Boy reference as I refer to this as the THAS BOY version!!

    Only 4 copies of each?

Did you manage to get Free As A Bird as an EMI Swindon pressing? It annoyed me that I could only locate those from EMI Uden. At least Real Love is the real thing.

    Re: Bad Boy

I agree, Dave. Actually, I would say that both "Money" & "Twist And Shout" are stronger songs, I just love what John did vocally w/ "Bad Boy".

What a great thread this is!

One fave of mine that hasn't been mentioned yet is Peter & Gordon's cover of "True Love Ways".
