How is it that every mono White Album that comes up for sale on eBay is stone mint? Jacket, photos, poster, black inserts, labels, and the most important part, the vinyl are always "Stunning!". Did no one who owned a copy of the Beatles - mono - White Album on vinyl every play it, look at the photos, or open up the poster?

This mono album consistently shows up on eBay in mint condition. Any theories?

I think a lot of us just bought sets and put them away. Just think how many sealed MOFI's are still out there.

Maybe stereo systems were so close around the corner then that the owners bought the stereo version soon afterwards and played them to death instead.

    that's my guessory

    Tom's essentially right.

Many people who bought MFSL LPs knew they bought something "above average" and paid the price. In many cases, they were put away as "treasures". I know one chap who has an MFSL Beatles box who's played them maybe once. He has no turntable or wants to work with vinyl again. He doesn't want to sell the set, wants to wait. That's just an example.

And if I know someone with a MFSL box of Beatles, how many are out there? Mmmm.... Betcha there's a couple thousand.

    It was like owning antiques....etc.

Japanese pressings can be prized the same, although the master, like many MFSLs weren't "best ever", the pressing, construction and craftsmanship (as well as the price) didn't let many copies get in the hands of slobs and hacks.

I've seen two MFSL Japanese lps that were wrecked. One was a Neil Diamond "Jazz Singer" and another I think was "Crime Of The Century".

There were many MFSLs that hit cut-out bins too. That's how I got my Sticky Fingers mFSL.

I am not a gort. But with all due respect, could you guys please post these types of threads in the "Classifieds" section? Just getting to be too much to sift through. I look at this section specifically for music related information, not what is or is not for sale. Maybe I'm wrong and this is not a problem...and again I am not a gort. I just think it would be prudent. Am I off base? Sorry for the thread crap.

I never thought of doing that when I was 17. I was lucky to be able to save up the money for one Beatles album. They weren't cheap in Australia and it took a while to get the cash together from pocket money, odd jobs, collecting soft drink bottles for returns and so forth.

    Geoff

    No thread crap. :)

Classifieds are (Dave can correct me if I'm wrong) for live forum ads, when you're selling something. Not when you've spotted an eBay and want to throw a few questions.

If I had a whitey-red JPN to sell, I would put it in classifieds. If I wanted to know why so many turn up on eBay, I'd put it into Music.

No. But you can press the little link that says "contact a gort" and ask them to move the thread. As it now stands, you are relying on a gort seeing your post.

I disagree with Sckott - "classifieds" should be exactly for this. Let's expand the "read me" that goes with "classifieds" to indicate that.

    Regards,
    Geoff

I have three die hard collector friends and between the four of us we could put enough sealed MOFI LP's on the market to satisfy a lot of people. One of them has about four Rickie Lee Jones alone. I myself, still have a complete sealed set of the individual Beatles MOFI's and a new set of the Japanese Red Mono's.

I do agree with Metralla, at 17 I just had enough of money each week to buy a regular LP but a lot of us were in our 30's in the eighties so we could afford to speculate a little.

I don't see the problem. The thread title clearly says Ebay. At l;east to me it is obvious that the thread wasn't about "music information" but about something for auction.

Just my $0.2, but I'll go with the flow...

I'm mixed -- this could go either way. Sckott's generally right: classifieds is for pointing out things for sale, either your own or an ebay auction, specifically so people can buy them.

On the other hand, having questions about an item (sonics, rarity, etc) should be here in Music Corner. Just because it's on ebay doesn't mean that it necessarily has to be in Classfieds.

In this particular instance, miike's original post is about both: points out an auction, and also talks about the rarity (or lack thereof) of mint red mono white albums.

So flip a coin, it can stay here or go into Classfieds. :)

Someone snapped it up using the Buy it Now for $499.
I'd think you could find a clean pressing of that LP a lot cheaper, I bought one last year on Ebay(M-)for $200. :)

Does anyone have an idea of what the entire 1982 red vinyl mono set is worth? I have it in unplayed condition, as I am one of "those" Beatles collectors.

Due to the information provided in this thread let's just leave it where it is as generally in the Classifieds the info./conversation factor isn't as informative as this thread appears to be getting. Thx.

After the Japan '82 red vinyls sold out so quickly a lot people sngged on to the '86 copies once again for collectability and maybe investment purposes. When Japan says limited edition it's usually taken very seriously, therefore people (including myself) didn't play these a whole lot, if at all, in order to keep them near mint as possible.

Well John unfortunately for me, I was unaware of the 1882 and '86 red wax Beatles LPs until a couple of years ago.

I vaguely remember once in 1981 or so seeing the UK mono black box at Records On Wheels in Wpg., and had no idea why someone would want to listen to mono LPs. Never saw the '82 red wax LPs there.

At that point in time, the Mark Lewisohn Beatles Recording Sessions book was not out and I'm sure I wasn't the only person in Western Canada who did not fully understand the differences with the mono and stereo Beatles LPs and 45 releases from the U.K. Heck, if I had that sort of information, I would have purchased 2 copies of the black box when Records On Wheels carried it, and definitely would have been searching for the Japanese red wax LPs.

I moved here from Wpg. in Jan. '86. The only decent used vinyl and import vinyl/CD store in Calgary was "The Record Store". (They went under in around 1994). I don not remember ever seeing the red wax monos there. The World Wide Web wasn't around yet. And by 1986 our dollar was getting weak. I'm sure most ma and pa import record stores were not bringing in much in the way of Japanese LPs or CDs, because of the high cost and then the high price tag.

As I said to a record collector friend of mine the other day, "Had the Internet, stevehoffman.tv, eBay, Red Trumpet, etc. been around in 1980, my Beatles LP collection would be a WHOLE lot different today. :sigh:

Check what the buyers last Ebay purchase was a Beatles Blue Box (although the box looks Black in the photo). Maybe the word on this forum is spreading. Shhh be verry quite or there will be nothing left for us.
