    Not mentioned yet: Depeche Mode, Songs Of Faith And Devotion.

    (although I like the singles from Violator better, I thing that SoFaD is the better album of the two)

    My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless", and I don't think it's even close. Impenetrable, then irresistible. One of the most novel albums in the entire rock catalog.

    This is tough for me, even though it was my generation, I did not like much music in the 1990's. In no particular order most of these albums I can stomach a full listen all the way through;

    Pink Floyd - The Division Bell/Pulse

    Alice in Chains - Dirt/ Jar of Flies

    Nirvana - In Utero

    Pearl Jam - Ten

    Ozzy Osborne - No More Tears

    Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusions (both)

    Soundgarden - Superunknown

    Beck - Mellow Gold

    Eric Clapton - Unplugged

    Page & Plant - No Quarter (Unledded)

    The Crow - (Soundtrack)

    Any other album, it's either 1 or 2 songs but I mostly discard the rest of it.

    The honest answer would be that Nirvana album. I don't even own it and I don't like the band, but I must recognise the impact it had musically during the decade and amongst the younger generation.

    Personally I would chose either an R.E.M. album from the early years of the decade (either Out of time or Automatic, even if these two aren't my band favourites) or The Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie, even if I only liked a couple of its songs.
