Any album from 1970 to 1980. I also love Let's Dance (1983) when in the mood.

Wild is the wind to slow for you? That's one of Bowies best albums.

I agree. "Station To Station" is amazing. But I don't like the last 2 songs on it.

    Wow.

"Stay" is one of his greatest tracks. That riff. That bass. The drums. And...Bowie, of course.

"Wild is the Wind" is one of his most beautiful recordings, right up there with "Lady Grinning Soul."

I like your picture alexpop. My dad took me to Aron's Records in L.A. for my 6th birthday and let purchase an album (along with Star Wars figures from Toys "R" Us). They only had Bowie imports from Japan. I already had Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, and Let's Dance, so I chose Diamond Dogs (and fell in love). I became fascinated with the colored OBIs, and the markings on them and the album (I later learned they were from the Japanese alphabet).

How do they sound? I knew nothing about sound quality, then.

My immediate choice is Ziggy, but I'm 60 and scanning through this thread I can't help but wonder if the age of poster correlates to their choice.

I'm gonna go with Low as well. This was an album that really opened my mind to many new musical vistas when I first heard it. I originally bought it on cassette in Junior High School.

Top 4 ("best" varies quite a bit over time)

    Ziggy
    Let's Dance
Christiane F (not getting any love on this thread)
Heathen (solid all the way thru)

Think 'Ziggy' is a lot more contempoary, than say 'Sgt Pepper' in regards to children of baby boomers choice.

  20. I'm not a huge fan of everything Bowie did in the 70's (to put it mildly)...

...but "Stay" and "Wild is the Wind" are two top-10 songs, maybe even top-5 standouts in my book out of anything in Bowie's entire catalog (speaking as someone who loves primarily post-"Tin Machine" Bowie).

The year 2000 live versions of these two tunes from disk #3 of the BBC set are absolute standouts.

Funny, "Lady Grinning Soul" is my favorite track on Aladdin Sane, but "Wild is the Wind" is just too overwrought for me. I far prefer the other double-w song on S2S, "Word on a Wing."

Nina Simone nailed 'Wild Is The Wind' I'll leave it at that.

I'd always been a Hunky Dory/Ziggy guy with a splash of Changes Bowie until I read this thread. I saw LOW coming up over and over and I had never heard it. Seeing it mentioned as much as my two faves, if not more, I sought out a copy. I found a sealed RCA International Press from '84. I have been pretty blown away, not really a keyboard or synthesizer person but this album have a vibe to it. It reminded me of LOVELESS by MBV a lot at first, that is changing a bit as I get to know the songs better. The one where he is singing about being lonely has particularly caught my ear as has SOUND and VISION. Thanks guys and gals!

From start to finish, it has to be Hunky Dory.
