In contrast to the other thread floating around, let's inject some positive energy into the board and discuss the best drum sounds you've ever heard. Irrespective of genre.

I'll get the party started with this ... just a great mix of hit and room and weight. It's fantastic.

I agree with Ringo that the drum sound on "Abbey Road" is spectacular.

Here is one you don't hear about too often when this subject comes up: Phil Ehart's drums on Kansas Leftoverture album.

And of course, John Henry Bonham.

I'm a big fan of Steve Albini's recordings of drums, especially PJ Harvey's first couple records. The drums on Rid of Me are perfection.

It's all about the crashing toms on this. This YouTube video obviously doesn't do the track justice.

He's done some of the best ... this one by Nina Nastasia and Jim White from their 2007 record You Follow Me ...

And not on youtube except as the Boom Bip remix, which I also like a lot but it doesn't feature Jim's great drum sound, this is one of my favorites from You Follow Me ... A Downcast 'Discussion,' with Stumbling Drums ยป

Didn't expect Jesus Lizard to be the opening gambit on here. Good stuff.

    More Albini:

Does the TR-808 in general count? ;)

nah, me too. also Hugh Padgham's brilliant work on the similarly more processed side of things.

back in the day, I greatly admired the drum sound on Ian Hunter's You're Never Alone With a Schizophrenic, especially the track "Bastard"
