What's the best Genesis album? Is it the usual masterpiece such as Pound, Lamb or Foxtrot? Or is it something else, something less proggy/more commercial? Vote for your top 5 Genesis albums here...

Crud, I only voted for one. You can added another vote, as the option to change my vote is not present, to Abacab, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail and Foxtrot.

But for me, like Yes, from 1971-77 the band hardly put a foot wrong.

"Nursery Crime" through "A Trick Of The Tail", for me.

Selling England will probably win this poll, but I went with Trick of the Tail because I think song for song its their most consistent album. Nursery Cryme is my favorite, but that's not what the OP asked for. I only voted once.

I lean very heavily towards Foxtrot (original vinyl mix) because I don't think there's a bad cut on there, plus it has "Supper's Ready."

Next would probably be Duke, followed by Nursery Crime, A Trick of the Tale, and Wind & Wuthering. I'd have picked Selling England because the highs are so high, but "More Fool Me" and "Epping Forest" don't do it for me.

Selling England is my favorite of the Gabriel era, and it's a hard one to beat.

Left with four other choices, I picked Trick of the Tail through Duke. I think it's admirable how the band was able to create material of that caliber after their frontman's departure. It was different stuff in a way, but not really that different.

Trespass (my first experience) plus A Trick Of The Tail, And Then There Were Three and Duke. For me, this was the best Genesis period when they were in that land of confusion between prog-rock and pop. This post was brought to you using my PS4, the first time I have done this and boy, was it hard work!

I have no bias since I'm a fan of all eras. And yes, that includes Calling All Stations.

Looking forward to receiving the NM US “pink scroll” Charisma label version of Foxtrot on LP, which I purchased today via Discogs. S’posed to be good. Will digitize - works great

From this thread’s survey, i picked four:

    Foxtrot
    Selling England
    Trick
    Wind and Wuthering

I didn't notice until too late that it was multiple choice, but no matter, I am happy recording just one vote for The Lamb.

Not to be a pedant, but the correct title of the album is "Nursery Cryme".

Trick Of The Tail for me, it was like a breath of fresh air at the time and remains my favourite. The consistency is high throughout and it spawned some great concert 'must plays'. The run from Foxtrot to Trick are all masterpieces for me.

Foxtrot/Trick of the Tail almost equally. Foxtrot if I had to pick one. Lamb would be #3.

Never can understand why so little love for ATTWT. Not just here, even on the fans forum - I think it's fantastic if spoiled somewhat by the inclusion of the soppy Follow You Follow Me - maybe that's the reason for the indifference, who knows.

This is my favorite rock band since 1974, really love there output, I voted for Foxtrot through Wind & Wuthering. But my favorites are from Trespass to Wuthering, all top notch! I like there newer stuff as well, but not to same degree, least favorite album is probably We Can't Dance, and that has stuff on there that's good.

I agree, this is a very good effort. But there's a couple of things going on on this one. Steve Hackett is missing and it shows, he added so much colour to the sound & the lack of the lush Mellotron that the previous releases had, and of course the shorter songs. A very much a transitional album, under the circumstances a nice release!

Good points and despite all of that, I would hold this up as the album's flagship track!

Many (too many) more. Three votes is somewhat of a misunderstanding... but as always with these things, I think nothing is ever 'the best' because the beauty lies in the ear (or ears if they are so fortunate) of the beholder.

Trick Of The Tail is what I think is their best. They felt they had to prove to everyone that they were viable without Peter. A superior effort yielded a superior album.
