    Some of my favourites:

Moody Blues - Have You Heard, Watching and Waiting
Genesis - The Fountain of Salmacis; Supper's Ready (if you want to include a nearly side-long track)
Hambi and the Dance - Standing in the Rain

"Train In Vain" has got to be wayyy up there. Making it even better was that this gem was include as an afterthought.

I would agree. I do like "A Day in the Life", but it's not a fave, whereas "She Loves You" remains toppermost of the poppermost...

  8. Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly 1964-73 rock's best decade

Tomorrow Never Knows, A Day In The Life, Won't Get Fooled Again, and 1985 are all great choices.

    Some others:
Nights In White Satin/Late Lament (Moody Blues) from DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED
Time Of The Season (Zombies) from ODESSEY AND ORACLE)
Back Seat Of My Car (Paul McCartney) from RAM
The End/Her Majesty (Beatles) from ABBEY ROAD
Bike (Pink Floyd) from PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN

But my very special favorite goes to:
From The Morning (Nick Drake) from PINK MOON
Drake's songs were often very melancholic, but "From The Morning" is a great song of hope. That it was the final song on the final album released during Drake's lifetime adds special meaning.

'In Held 'Twas In I' on Procol Harum's 'Shine On Brightly'. Nothing else comes close in my opinion.

    (you're mileage may vary)

Check out Lucinda Williams' live performance of Nick Drake's WHICH WILL that concludes her Sweet Old World cd album. It's passionate, loving, and very well produced....

Many great songs listed already. I'll mention:

    "Brothers In Arms"- Dire Straits
    "Find The River" - R.E.M.

As far as Dylan goes, I'll take "Highlands" over "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands". I also prefer "Sara", "Buckets Of Rain", "Where Are You Tonight? (Journey Through Dark Heat)", "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight", and a handful of others. Hard to deny "Desolation Row", though.

Lots of worthy picks. I'll add a personal favorite - Old and Wise - Alan Parsons Project, from Eye in the Sky.

There are those that use the last track to provide a little diddy or come-down coda.
Then there are those that use the last track to give a sense of finality, power and closure.

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust - Rock & Roll Suicide

Genesis - Wind And Wuthering - Afterglow

Cocteau Twins (they always save the best for last) :
Victorialand - The Thinner The Air
Milk & Kisses - Treasure Hiding

    New Order - Low-life - Sunrise

Joy Division - Closer - Decades

Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain - Ocean Rain

Brian Eno - Music For Films - Final Sunset

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King - The Crimson King

Moody Blues Days Of Future Passed - The Night: Nights In White Satin
