I've seen virtually everyone I wanted to see except Hendrix, the original Byrds and Elvis Presley.Even though the "experience" of seeing the Stones in 1966 and 1969 and the Beatles in 1966 are favorite memories, I'd have to say seeing The Who in May 1969 in a club right after Tommy was released puts them at the top of my list of best live bands I've ever seen. All of them were at their peak and as far as an all encompassing high energy "rock show" goes, seeing them from a few feet away while they were roaring through their tunes was truly awesome, even though "awesome" is over used for everything these days.

Here's a few pictures the guy next to me took. As you can see, Pete was always boring, just standing around, strumming his guitar.:D

Fabulous shots Glenn! Time to close this thread! I'm sure people on this forum who actually saw the Beatles/Stones/Who in the 60's is in single digits. You lucky SOB! :edthumbs:

Yes, I suck. :p But I'm hoping to be the last guy standing that saw the three of them in their prime, just to annoy everyone here. :D

Tough question, but I've seen a lot of shows over the decades, and I have to say that Frank Zappa (and his various bands) is the greatest. I remember going to see him in the late 70's in Florida. I had bought tickets for a Miami concert, and then won tickets in Tampa just two days later. What the heck, I remember thinking, both shows were COMPLETELY different! Different songs, different arrangements of songs I heard in Miami, and different guitar solos. If you are interested in improvised music and abundant creativity, then Zappa is your man.

Lest we forget - REM was great in their early stages - I saw them in 82 or 83 on the Harvard campus, or perhaps it was at the Metro. Anyway, just amazing -the sound of Rickenbackers jangling.

I would almost trade you one of my Hendrix shows for one of your Beatles ...
Aw hell, who am kidding? I'd trade ... but just one.

Never saw Mott, but a concert by Ian Hunter some years later was the only show my wife ever walked out on. Way too loud! I stayed, but my ears rang for almost two days afterward!

Check out their live album, Howlin' At The Halloween Moon, to see what I mean.

many many bands listed here that i wish i could have witnessed live in their heydays. from my own personal experiences, i have to say that u2 shows were really magical experiences around the unforgettable fire/joshua tree period. no special lights or stage decor. just lots of excitement and energy.
