'le mer' was one of the great musical surprises in a movie, and i can't imagine a better ending to this film.

    cheers,

The scenes from The Graduate where Sounds of Silence and April Come She Will are used, the music is an integral part and used to great effect in that film. Moving in Stereo from Fast Times at Ridgemont High deserves mention......

Everybody's Talking from Midnight Cowboy is another example of an effective use of a song in a film.

Jessie's Girl is a great call, but don't forget the Sister Christian portion of that scene, too. Mama Told Me Not to Come is also perfect for its scene in that film. Also, seconded on Jump Into the Fire (and Memo from Turner) in Goodfellas, and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) making time scene from Withnail. Tons of great music/scene combinations in Tarantino movies, but Stuck in the Middle was the first to jump out at me too.

I like when the music matches the theme of the scene. And sometimes it's just the right song for the scene.

"I Believe in Miracles" from Boogie Nights
    "Driver's Seat" from Boogie Nights
    "Sister Christian" from Boogie Nights
    "Living Thing" from Boogie Nights
"Sweet Emotion" from Dazed and Confused
"No More Mr. Nice Guy" from D & C
    "Paranoid" from D&C
"I'm Not in Love" from Guardians of the Galaxy
"Come and Get Your Love" from Guardians of the Galaxy
"Moonage Daydream" from Guardians of the Galaxy
    "Animal Magnetism" from The Wrestler
    The entire Big Lebowski soundtrack

'Mad World' in Donnie Darko was pretty good. Though we were all a bit sick of the song after it was no. 1 for months.

Also from Fast Times, the American Girl opening and the scene with Jackson Browne's Somebody's Baby. Others may mention Kashmir, also.

Many have mentioned Scorcese movies, my favourite musical piece is from Good Fellas as a frantic Ray Liotta is soundtracked by George Harrison's What is Life.

Finally, any movie with Across 110th Street by Bobby Womack.

I think the "ultraviolence" he's referring to however is accompanied by La gazza ladra by Rossini.

Also in Casino, "Satisfaction" by Devo.
It's perfect: first of, the Stones have been in most of the movie, then when times start to change for our heroes, so does the music, hence the new wave version of a Stones song; plus, the shotguns firing rounds in unison with the "babybabybabybabybabybaby". Scorsese is a genius.

Louis Armstrong - "What a Wonderful World" from "Good Morning Vietnam". Plays during scenes of carnage if I'm remembering correctly.

Goodfellas has quite a few but this is my standout.
