Heard Kali Uchis' Isolation today, and really enjoyed it. Expertly produced, tasty, diverse mixture of soul, r&b, funk, pop, disco and hip hop. A great debut.
Late 2017, yet this is an alt country beauty. For fans of Everly Brothers, Beachwood Sparks, The Byrds, Vetiver, etc. Chico River
Another 2017 one, sorry, but this has not been heralded enough. It’s the debut virtuoso guitar album from Robbie Basho’s student Richard Osborn:
Shabaka Hutching and his Sons Of Kemet recorded 'Your Queen is a Reptile' which is released on the Impulse label. Well worth checking out.
There's a couple upcoming ones I'm really looking forward to, With Dim Light from Japanese psych kosmische rockers Minami Deutsch, and Ecstatic Arrow from one of my favorite modern bands, Virginia Wing ... both on preorder, but that's all I've got at the moment ... Minami Deutsch - Tangled Yarn (2018)
Out today, but been listening to it all week... fantastic songs, catchy as hell - optimism through rock & roll in the face of aging and irrelevance! Standing up against the coming tide, not unlike the photo of the samurai on the cover, who's time is up due to the coming of the gun, but still refusing to resist!
Rosie and the Riveters' Ms. Behave is terrific. My wife introduced me to them, saying she really dug their look, so I checked 'em out – kind of a 1940s Americana/girl-group sound that's pretty interesting. My favorite track off their new album is 'Ask a Man':
This is a band I just discovered, Vintage Trouble and their new album is titled The Bomb Shelter Sessions
Oh wow... I always liked Laura Marling, but this song (and video) by Lump is amazing. Instant purchase.
Been enjoying the latest ‘The Amazing’ CD called In Transit. For those that don’t know them they are a Swedish band that includes the guitarist from Dungen who is really good. This latest release is pretty melancholy sort of like Red House Painters in the 4AD days.
For some reason I'm surprised that I love the new album from one of my all-time favorite bands. They said they were calling it quits a couple years ago but rejoined to make an instrumental soundtrack to leader Willy Vlautin's new book. If you like pedal steel, harmonica, horns and western imagery this might for you. Richmond Fontaine from the album Don't Skip Out On Me
Been listening a couple times today to the new album from Rival Consoles, Persona. Electronica with a lot of emotion, love the video below for "Untravel", on the album the previous track "Dreamer's Wake" flowing into "Untravel" is pretty intoxicating ... Dreamer's Wake
Second this. Incredible pressing. It is very clean and quiet. The packaging is amazing too, with a well-printed booklet.
I was just going to sample a couple of tunes off this new album, but I ended up listening to the whole thing. Catchiest thing I've heard in a long time.
