This new Kim Wilde is outstanding! It's tied with the new Lisa Stansfield as my most-listened to of the year so far!
2018 is still young-ish, but I've played Lisa Stansfield's Deeper album more than anything else this year. Album of the year for me, so far.
Did I just miss it, or am I the only one completely digging on this album?! In a nearly 180 turn from the "Americana" roots of her first album, she sounds liberated and having a blast. Caroline Rose - "Getting To Me" [Audio Only] Caroline Rose - "Cry!" [Audio Only]

I've added 17 new releases so far this year and while I like them all just fine there are only a few that really stand out for me. Sons Of Kemet - Your Queen Is A Reptile Paul Thorn - Don't Let The Devil Ride The Reverend Shawn Amos - S/T
I've been listening to the latest modern jazz release Artemsia by cellist Erik Friedlander and his piano/bass/drums band Throw a Glass, this one is very nice... though the 3-LP package is a bit on the pricey side, well, maybe a lot more than a bit at $85, sounds like it would be fun to have if you have that kind of vinyl budget, three 10" green records and booklet in nice slipcase ... definitely worth a listen or three, even sounds pretty nice via low rate Spotify ... The music on the record is inspired by the murky history of absinthe and its use as a brain-bending hallucinogen. This concept was sparked by my viewing of Pablo Picasso’s mysterious absinthe glass sculptures at MoMA back in 2015. On first look, the glasses were kind of pretty, innocent. But as I looked more closely I saw that Picasso had torn away the fronts of the glasses, revealing their insides. Was Picasso commenting on the effects of absinthe? Does it tear away one's exterior? Artemisia has tracks that are hypnotic meditations on obsession, and others that optimistically chase euphoria, pursuing the "green fairy." Akino Kondoh's album artwork will be seductive and haunting, and the deluxe box set will be a beautiful thing to hold and have in your vinyl collection. I'm liking the new album from Cate Le Bon and White Fence's Tim Presley, Hippo Lite by Drinks. Challenging, choppy, punky pop tunes that sorta remind me of Swell Maps.
This album really is fantastic. I was already a fan after the last two albums, but this one might just be better than either of those. Such a great vibe, killer musicianship. Given the Dungen connection I'm really surprised these guys aren't getting more attention. Great cover art too that nicely evokes what I hear in the music.
There's a dedicated thread to it, but it's worth posting here too: Wye Oak's "The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs" is a fascinating record. I've been playing the vinyl the past couple of weeks. It's more ambient and more experimental than previous Wye Oak albums. But it's also still very much rock-and-roll, with guitars and drums, bracing and crashing, even if it's delivered in an eccentric way that's purposefully not tight or punchy. (I've posted a track below, but the music really is more effective to sit back and listen to over an LP side, given the album's ambient feel.) Wye Oak, "The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs"
Just finished listening to this, and wow, it's a keeper. Irresistibly danceable, groovy electropop. Highly recommended. Confidence Man - Confident Music for Confident People
Yes a good amount of Abba meets My Bloody Valentine as far as the sound is concerned. I like the video too. Good but lacks a bit of originality in the songwriting imho.
For me, best new album of the year so far is Judas Priest - Firepower. Been listening to it almost daily ever since its release (sometimes multiple listens per day.) I estimate I've given it between 40-50 listens so far.
