I want to say it was October 2000. Went to the Hemmens in Elgin, IL to see my first Cowboy Junkies show. Opening band was Over The Rhine, they also performed along with the CJ. OTR were fantastic. Been a fan ever since.

I saw them open for Joe Jackson as well that same year at Great Adventure amusement park in NJ. I liked Joe Jackson and with the Records was only familiar with Starry Eyes at the time.....I didn't have their debut album yet. I thought they were great......even better than JJ that night.

    First that come to mind.

Radiohead opening for Neil Young. Supporting The Bends.
Billy Squier opening for Queen(Hot Space tour).
Reunited Asia opening for Yes. Asia put them to shame here. Wetton in good voice and Carl Palmer stealing both shows with his passion/energy.

    Hmmm.......

Probably Stevie Ray Vaughan opening for Robert Plant in 1988. The first opening act I ever witnessed that came back for an encore.

Del Lords opening for Lou Reed.

Also, the Police Picnic II, Toronto 1982. Multi-act bill which saw Talking Heads and English Beat deliver great sets before the headliners, who were also great.

Pretty amazing huh? I think it was my first concert... went with my older sister. Wish I could remember it better. The Doors made a big impression, so did Buffalo Springfield. I thought The Byrds were kind of weak, but what did I know, I was just a kid.

Black Oak Arkansas opening for War. I like War just fine and have seen them perform phenomenally ... but every band has an occasional off night. This was one of those nights. They just didn't have it for whatever reason. BOA, on the other hand, was simply on fire from the first note to the last. Kinda sad to see half the audience leave after War's third or fourth song. That night Tommy Aldridge played the best drum performance I'd ever seen at that point in my life. That BOA show remains one of the best rock concerts I've ever seen.

Another one I recall is Free blowing Traffic outta the water in Denver. Don't get me wrong ... Traffic was good, but couldn't hold a candle to Free that night.

And finally, saw Morbid Angel completely destroy Slayer at an outdoor show. Sadly, it was primarily because Araya had the flu and had no voice. Sad ... but that's life on the road sometimes.

The Sword opening for Kyuss Lives! (though I think they might have still been going by Kyuss at the time). I hadn't heard much of The Sword at that point, but they handily blew the re-formed Kyuss out of the water.

A few years ago, the Brazilian band Boogarins opening for the Swedish psych band Dungen--Dungen was great as ever, and Boogarins' set was stunning.

I was at that show, my friends I went with didn’t care about Spiritualized so we caught just the last part of their set; I’m still regretting it almost two decades later. I did see them perform ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ a few years ago in LA’s magnificent Theater at the Ace Hotel.
