    - "Talkin' Bout a Revolution" from Tracy Chapman in 1988
    - "Sittin' on Top of the World" from Lenny Kravitz in 1989

These may not be at the top of the list all-time, but in the late 80's they immediately grabbed my attention as something refreshing when I first heard them, and I knew I'd like the rest of each of the albums before hearing them in full.

Tracy Chapman "Talkin' bout a Revolution"

Adam Wernick quoted Tracy Chapman in a recent PRI web article:
"Chapman was only 24 years old and had never recorded professionally when she stepped into the studio to make her debut album. Still, she says, these were songs she had been playing for years. She wrote “Talking About a Revolution” when she was 16 and had been playing it regularly in coffeehouses and street performances."

"To Know You" is one of Nichole Nordeman's best songs and it opens her debut album, "Wide Eyed." The next 2 tracks, the title track and "Who You Are" are also classics so that is a great one, two, three punch.

May not be the best, but a good one is Sweet Jane from Lou Reed's rock n roll animal
