My Marantz Reference DV12-S1 DVD-A player. $999 NIB in 2000. Retailed for $2700. Built like a battleship. They were giving them away back then fearing the eminent demise of the DVD-A format. :shrug:She might be running a bit long in the tooth with her 15 year old 24/192 dacs but stills sounds great.

  9. My Brinkmann Oasis turntable with Graham Phantom Supreme II arm and Lyra Delos cartridge was a game-changer for me. All of my problems with distortion and noise disappeared overnight and I was finally able to completely enjoy listening to my vinyl. It was an expensive upgrade, but a bargain given what it unlocked for me.

Seven years ago I started a new job that allowed me to have iTunes on my work PC. My wife bough me a terabyte hard drive and I spent almost a year ripping 3,000 or so CDs in Apple Lossless format. After that came an iPhone and some Sennheiser IEMs. That iPhone and some decent headphones allowed me to get back into all the music that was sitting on shelves.

I love the Delos, if I where ever to move over to MC this would be the one I would go to first.

The JBL S4700s. The best speaker I've ever owned.

I've told this story before in other threads over the years, but here you go...
The best purchase I ever made was the VG+ (at best) copy of Basie's "Atomic" album I picked up in a used record store over 20 years ago.
I'd been looking for a nice copy, but went with this one mainly so I could chat up the cute girl behind the counter.
We still play that record from time to time.

Digital: JRiver Media Center. I was skeptical, but it sounds better than iTunes to my ears.

Analog: Jico SAS stylus. Awesome, detailed sound once broken in.

I would own these but my room is too small. Therefore I went with the S3900s, fantastic speakers as well.

Yeah, I've got to say my Pro-Ject Phono Box RS was a game changer in my system. I'm glad to hear the Tube Phono is good as well, they must be doing things right at Pro-Ject.

I see, and they definitely are. The rest of your system's not too shabby either!

Thanks! I just noticed my system was way out of date so I updated it now. :)

Arcam AVR-350 for half the price, a couple of weeks after it had been discontinued. I was building my audio system and my timing couldn't have been more perfect. Otherwise, I couldn't have afforded a thing like this.
